Beloved Green Lantern Dies in Heroic Sacrifice

Heroes often face death, willingly putting themselves in harm’s way for what they believe in. Recently, in a new issue of Green Lantern, one such hero made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their life to save the universe.

Green Lantern #27, written by Jeremy Adams and illustrated by Xermanico, continues the ‘Starbreaker Supremacy’ storyline. The story focuses on the different Lantern Corps battling a massive force led by Starbreaker, who temporarily disabled the source of their powers. This conflict is happening while they attempt to create new central power sources for each Corps on the planet Oa.

Although the batteries were repaired, they still couldn’t power the Spectrum, leaving the Green Lantern Corps in a difficult situation. They had a fully prepared army, but no way to give them the energy they needed to fight.

What beloved Green Lantern died?

Fortunately, John Stewart, now leading the Oan forces, had a strategy. During the ‘Horatius’ storyline, he’d connected with The Source – the original energy that created the DC Universe. This connection gave Stewart immense power. He’d been using his strong willpower to control it, waiting for the right moment to unleash it.

Despite his friends’ warnings, Stewart unleashed his incredible power, and it appeared to cost him his life. This act triggered a surge of energy through the Central Power Batteries, revitalizing the various Lantern Corps and forming a powerful army ready to confront Starbreaker and his forces.

Death isn’t usually permanent for comic book characters, and it seems unlikely John Stewart is truly gone. He used to be a Guardian of the Universe, so he’s experienced with incredible cosmic power. Plus, if anyone could survive something like this just through sheer willpower, it’s the Green Lantern John Stewart.

Green Lantern #27 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
