The 2022 true crime drama Black Bird is based on the book With the Devil: a Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by Hillel Levin and Jimmy Keene. Dennis Lehane, known for his work on Mystic River, adapted the story for television. The series tells a compelling story centered around Jimmy Keene, a career criminal played by Taron Egerton.

Keene was first arrested for drug offenses, but during his trial, he also faced charges related to illegal firearms. This dramatically increased his sentence from two years with the possibility of parole to a ten-year sentence with no parole. Facing a long time in prison, Keene was contacted by the FBI, who presented him with a very unusual and dangerous offer.
