Avengers: Doomsday Will Set Up A Wild F4 Team Everyone Forgets About

Fans have been waiting a long time, but Avengers: Doomsday is finally bringing together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men in one epic Marvel movie. Although Disney doesn’t fully own the rights to Spider-Man, most people expect to see him appear in Secret Wars as well.

This opens up exciting possibilities for the Marvel Universe, allowing for unprecedented crossovers and a fresh wave of stories. We might even see the most unusual Fantastic Four lineup ever assembled.

The Fantastic Four Of Popularity

The Fantastic Four, Marvel’s original flagship series, launched in 1961, but by 1990, its sales had declined. Although the comic wasn’t failing, it consistently ranked among the lowest-performing titles in the top 20. Marvel knew a reliable way to give sales a temporary boost: feature popular artists on the cover.

In issue #348 of Fantastic Four, the usual team was temporarily swapped out for Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider. This change wasn’t a secret – the cover openly advertised it as a marketing move with the tagline “The World’s Most Commercialest Comic Magazine!” Despite being a clear attempt to sell more copies, writer Walt Simonson and artists Art Adams and Gracine Tanaka still created a fantastic story.

This two-part story brings together a new lineup of the Fantastic Four after they’re led to believe the original team was killed. They’re tricked by De’Lila, a Skrull shapeshifter who disguised herself as Sue Storm and asked other famous heroes for revenge. Initially, the new team clashes and has trouble cooperating, but they eventually uncover the truth. In the end, both versions of the Fantastic Four team up and save the day.

They even snuck in a quick Punisher cameo into Fantastic Four #349 just to be safe.

Now This Oddball Team Can Make It To the Silver Screen

It’s clear the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced challenges since the release of Avengers: Endgame. Although Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine were huge successes, other Marvel films haven’t performed as well as the studio previously enjoyed. Even Fantastic Four: First Steps, while profitable, didn’t quite reach the level of success Kevin Feige and his team were aiming for.

With a new Fantastic Four movie planned after ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ the films might follow the comic books’ lead and feature more popular heroes instead. Imagine seeing Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk team up – that would be amazing! Plus, fans are eager to see Ghost Rider finally get a major movie role.

While it wouldn’t solve the MCU’s current issues, it would likely boost ticket sales significantly.
