Joel McHale recently talked about the long wait for a Community movie, which has been stuck in development for a while. He mentioned on The Watch podcast with Andy Greenwald that filming almost started, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023 caused significant delays.

The highly anticipated God of War TV series, based on the popular video game created by Santa Monica Studio, is coming to Prime Video. Ryan Hurst will play Kratos, and Callum Vinson will play his son, Atreus. While excitement for the show is strong, a recent first-look image of the father-son duo received a varied reaction from fans online.

The character Hawkeye received his own six-episode series in 2021. The show follows his attempt to return home to his family by Christmas, all while grappling with the consequences of his past as the vigilante Ronin. It also introduces new characters like Kate Bishop, Maya Lopez/Echo, and Jack Duquense/Swordsman, and brings back the villain Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Although the show was popular, early ideas considered a much grimmer tone, focusing on Clint Barton’s emotional struggles as Ronin instead of the lighter, more festive Christmas story it ultimately became.

Several recent action films have clearly taken inspiration from John Wick. 2017’s Atomic Blonde flipped the original concept with a female lead and was directed by one of John Wick’s producers. Bullet Train (2022) brought the action to a fast-moving train, and 2021’s Nobody combined the intensity of John Wick with the story of an ordinary man turning to dark deeds, much like Breaking Bad. In fact, Nobody even featured Bob Odenkirk, a familiar face from Breaking Bad.

Lots of TV shows, particularly science fiction ones, start strong and immediately grab your attention. But often, they don’t maintain that momentum, and their interesting ideas don’t quite live up to their potential. It’s common for the second season to be weaker than the first, and over time, they tend to lose viewers.

The 1974 television series, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, quickly overcame a slow start and became incredibly popular. While adapting the original children’s novels, Little House on the Prairie aimed to appeal to more viewers. Ultimately, its heartwarming portrayal of the Ingalls family and comforting depiction of the Old West secured its place as a beloved historical Western.

Some storylines from the Fantastic Four comics are unlikely to appear in Marvel Studios’ films, either because they clash with existing Marvel Cinematic Universe details or are too sensitive for a wider audience. While a very loose interpretation might be possible, these moments would likely be significantly altered. Fortunately, many of the best Fantastic Four stories are still accessible and enjoyable.

The series began as a horror show, but with Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, it blended horror with comedy. Bruce Campbell’s character, Ash Williams, became a famous horror hero, defeating the Deadites in over-the-top, often funny, ways.

It’s frustrating when TV shows are cut short before they can reach their full potential, leaving viewers wanting more. Shows like Freaks and Geeks are still talked about years later because they had so much promise. On the other hand, some shows are intentionally designed as short, self-contained stories, ending after a single, excellent season.
