Apple TV’s Sci-Fi Hit Severance Holds Streaming Chart Success for 750 Days

Lots of science fiction TV shows are popular on streaming services right now, including Paradise and Fallout. However, Apple TV+’s show has taken things to another level. Starring Adam Scott, it remains a huge hit and recently achieved a new record, even though the second season ended almost a year ago.

As a huge TV fan, I’m still completely obsessed with Severance. According to FlixPatrol, it’s been consistently popular in the US for over two years – 750 days, to be exact! Right now, it’s the fifth most-watched show on Apple TV+ here in the States, and seventh globally. It’s clearly a hit worldwide and continues to be one of the platform’s biggest draws.

The show Severance, which first came out in 2022 and had its second season between January and March 2025, continues to be popular on streaming services. It’s currently the seventh most-watched show on Apple TV in countries like Argentina, Australia, and Chile, and even reached number five in Bolivia, Canada, and Costa Rica. Even nearly a year after its release, it’s still a hit with viewers.

What Is Severance About?

Okay, let me tell you about Severance. It’s honestly unlike anything I’ve seen on TV recently. This Apple TV+ show centers around people working at a company called Lumon Industries who’ve all undergone this crazy procedure – they surgically divide their memories so they have absolutely no recollection of their work lives when they’re not at work, and vice versa. It’s a really unsettling premise, and it creates a genuinely bizarre and intriguing world. You’re right there with these characters, experiencing the confusion and mystery as they try to piece things together, completely unaware of what’s happening on the ‘outside’. It’s a tough show to explain, but trust me, it’s worth checking out.

The cast of Severance includes Zach Cherry as Dylan G., Mark S.’s coworker, and Britt Lower as Helly R. Tramell Tillman, known from Godfather of Harlem, plays Seth Milchick, and Jen Tullock (Perry Mason) portrays Mark’s sister, Devon. John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette also star in the series.

Dan Erickson created the critically acclaimed series Severance, with Ben Stiller serving as both an executive producer and a director. The show has earned numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in both 2022 and 2025, and has been renewed for a third season.

Severance Has a Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

The Apple TV+ series Severance has been highly praised by both critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a 95% score from critics and an 80% score from viewers. Both the first season and the recently released Season 2 have earned near-perfect “Certified Fresh” ratings, with scores of 97% and 94% respectively.

In a review of Severance Season 2, Clarisse Loughrey of Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) noted that the show’s exploration of deeper questions about identity has actually made it even better and more enjoyable. Noah Berlatsky from the Chicago Reader praised the second season as excellent, but felt the first season was even more impactful, at least half the time.

The show Severance is incredibly popular, boasting an 8.6 rating on IMDb from nearly 400,000 viewers. Apple TV consistently produces excellent shows that gain international recognition and stay at the top of the charts. For example, Ted Lasso is currently the 6th most-watched show on Apple TV in the US and has been charting for almost 800 days.

As a huge movie and TV buff, I’ve been following Severance, and it’s seriously closing in on the record held by Ted Lasso for how long a show stays popular on streaming! It’s been one of the most-watched shows in the US for an incredible 750 days! Given how much everyone loves sci-fi lately, and all the buzz around the show, I wouldn’t be surprised if Severance actually takes over Ted Lasso‘s spot as the longest-running hit on the charts soon.

Severance is available to stream on Apple TV.
