Anya Taylor-Joy’s Apple TV Series ‘Lucky’ Unleashes Fiery First Teaser

Apple TV+ has released a first look at its upcoming summer thriller, Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a woman on the run who’s also a skilled con artist. The show, based on Marissa Stapley’s popular 2021 novel, is created by Jonathan Tropper, known for Your Friends & Neighbors. Timothy Olyphant plays Taylor-Joy’s father, John, and Annette Bening stars as Priscilla, a powerful and dangerous mob boss. The cast also includes William Fichtner, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Drew Starkey, and Clifton Collins Jr., adding even more talent to this exciting new series.

A new 40-second trailer, shown at Apple TV’s 2026 Press Day, reveals Anya Taylor-Joy’s character, Lucky, waking up covered in blood with a dead man beside her. She describes the situation as the result of “a series of bad decisions.” The trailer then quickly cuts between scenes of city nightlife, car crashes, FBI investigations, and even a rattlesnake, all set to energetic techno music. The show promises to be a thrilling ride when the first two episodes debut on July 15th.

The TV show features a huge bank robbery that doesn’t go as planned, but here’s the original story it’s based on:

Lucky is suddenly on her own, having always relied on her father and boyfriend to teach her how to con people. Just when she thinks things are looking up – she wins the lottery! – she realizes she can’t claim the prize without getting arrested for her past offenses.

I’m completely hooked on this story! It’s about a woman facing prison and losing everything. But it’s not just about her survival; it’s about her trying to rebuild her life while being haunted by her past. She needs to make peace with her dad, find the mother who left her as a baby, and deal with the guy she thought she could trust – turns out he has secrets too, and they’re about to cause major trouble for both of them. It’s a really intense and emotional ride!

Does Anya Taylor-Joy Have Another ‘Queen’s Gambit’ On Her Hands?

Many Netflix viewers will remember Anya Taylor-Joy from her hit 2020 series, The Queen’s Gambit. The show, a drama about a chess prodigy, quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular limited series, reaching 62 million households in its first month. Taylor-Joy won both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance as Beth Harmon.

While Lucky might not quite reach the heights of her previous hits, Anya Taylor-Joy remains captivating. She’s chosen another streaming project despite being able to headline big-budget films like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Gorge. It will be interesting to see if this new series can live up to the success of The Queen’s Gambit.
