A highly-rated crime drama from the last ten years recently reached a significant milestone on streaming platforms, just before the final episodes of its ninth season are released.
According to FlixPatrol, the series 9-1-1 has been a top ten streaming show on Hulu in the United States for an impressive 350 days. It currently ranks third, behind Paradise and High Potential, which also hold the top two spots on the overall list of most-streamed shows. 9-1-1 is number six overall.
What Is 9-1-1 About?
Premiering in 2018 and created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, 9-1-1 follows the brave firefighters of LAFD Station 118 and the other emergency personnel who work with them. The show originally starred Angela Bassett as LAPD sergeant Athena Grant, Jennifer Love Hewitt as 911 operator Maddie Buckley, Kenneth Choi as firefighter Howard “Chimney” Han, and Peter Krause as Captain Bobby Nash, who left the series during Season 8.
After Krause’s character left the show, viewers immediately wondered what would happen next. Before Season 9 began, it was revealed that Chimney would be taking on the role of acting captain, and the transition wouldn’t be smooth for him or the rest of the team at Station 118.
Since it first aired, 9-1-1 has become incredibly popular and has led to several spin-off series, including 9-1-1: Lone Star and 9-1-1: Nashville. While 9-1-1: Lone Star concluded after its fifth season in 2025, 9-1-1: Nashville quickly followed, offering viewers a brand new group of characters to connect with.
What the Future of 9-1-1 Looks Like for the Entire Franchise
Despite mixed reviews from critics and viewers, the first season of 9-1-1: Nashville has attracted a large audience. This strong viewership, as reported in early March, was enough for ABC to renew the show. Consequently, 9-1-1 has also been confirmed for a tenth season.
While viewers haven’t immediately embraced the latest spinoff, the original 9-1-1 series remains very popular. The Season 9 episode, “Mother’s Boy,” was particularly well-received, earning a 9.2/10 rating on IMDb based on over 2,800 reviews.
I was so glad to hear Minear talk about that episode! What really struck me was how it wasn’t just about Buck – it really delved into Eddie’s perspective too. Seeing them split up, with Eddie doing everything he could to help while Buck fought to survive, and then ultimately rescuing each other… it was just a perfect moment. It’s a dynamic I absolutely love, and it was great to hear him highlight that it wasn’t a one-sided story.
9-1-1 is currently available for streaming in the United States on Hulu.
