When Malcolm in the Middle first aired, it came out at an odd moment for TV. Traditional family sitcoms felt played out, but audiences weren’t quite ready for the newer, single-camera style of comedy that shows like Arrested Development and The Office would later popularize. Because of this, Malcolm in the Middle never really became a cultural phenomenon, and the network, Fox, didn’t help by frequently changing when the show aired. Thankfully, with the rise of DVDs and streaming, the show has found a dedicated audience, creating enough interest for a potential revival.
It’s common for a sitcom to have one actor become particularly well-known, and often that actor is a younger member of the cast. After Malcolm in the Middle ended in 2006, Bryan Cranston went on to create one of the most compelling characters of recent times – Walter White in Breaking Bad. Now, to the delight of fans, Cranston is revisiting his comedic roots in Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and you can get a sneak peek in the trailer below.
Good news for fans! Bryan Cranston isn’t the only original cast member returning – Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield, and Christopher Masterson are all back as well. The only role being played by a new actor is Dewey, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark taking over for Erik Per Sullivan, who has stepped away from acting.
