According to recent reports, Marvel Studios plans to resolve a criticism surrounding the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie in the next Avengers film, currently titled Avengers: Doomsday. Rumors indicate that a popular character will get a much-desired and well-developed portrayal, which could turn what many saw as a disappointing introduction into a successful and celebrated return.
Sentry rumored to play a ‘crazy’ role in Avengers: Doomsday’s final battle
Lewis Pullman’s introduction as Bob Reynolds—who possesses the incredible power of both Sentry and the dangerous Void—in Thunderbolts received a somewhat mixed reaction from viewers. Although audiences praised Pullman’s acting, many thought the character’s full potential wasn’t realized until the very end of the movie.
The short fight felt more like a preview of things to come than a full-fledged battle, and even when it moved to the Void, there wasn’t much actual fighting. The main issue was that we didn’t see enough of Sentry in action.
According to industry insider My Time To Shine Hello, Sentry will have a major role in the finale of Avengers: Doomsday. This suggests Marvel listened to fan feedback and will avoid the mistake made with Thunderbolts, where Sentry was quickly sidelined. Instead, Avengers: Doomsday seems to be setting up Sentry for a powerful and impactful appearance in the final battle.
Bill Pullman has spoken positively about working with the cast. In an interview with Esquire, he reassured fans that the movie won’t just be a series of quick cameos. He explained that the directors, the Russo brothers, made sure every actor had a meaningful role and a chance to develop their character, recognizing the talent they had assembled.
The actor hinted at some surprising and fun team-ups between characters. He said fans will be thrilled to see these pairings come to life, joking that it’s exciting to imagine who might work together. He suggested viewers will finally see some of their favorite character combinations play out on screen.
The new Avengers movie, Doomsday, hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and recent buzz suggests the long-awaited character, the Sentry, will finally appear.
