Chris Pratt Confirms Star-Lord’s MCU Future

Three years after appearing as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Chris Pratt has hinted at more to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pratt first joined the MCU in 2014 with Guardians of the Galaxy, where his portrayal of Peter Quill helped launch the popular Marvel team. Quill quickly became a central figure in the franchise, appearing in both recent Avengers films and contributing to the billion-dollar success of the MCU. Though the Guardians’ story concluded with Vol. 3, Pratt suggests his time as Quill isn’t finished yet.

While promoting his new movie, Mercy, Chris Pratt recently told Extra TV that Marvel will follow through on the storyline hinted at for Star-Lord at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He stated definitively, “It will happen.”

Extra TV: “Chris, the internet is swirling about you returning to the MCU. What can you give me?”

I’ve seen the discussion about my future with Marvel, and all I can say is that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with a promise that Star-Lord will be back. I trust Marvel to keep its promises, so it will happen – I just don’t know when yet.

Chris Pratt recently told Man on the Red Carpet that his character, Star-Lord, won’t be appearing in any films this year. However, he hesitated slightly while saying this, leading some to believe he might not be telling the whole truth and could make a brief appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.

Look, eventually Star-Lord will be back. I’m not saying it’ll be in 2026, but we definitely said he’d return, and honestly, I’m a guy who keeps his word. It’s important to me to deliver on what we promise fans.

When Will Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill Return in the MCU?

We don’t know when Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Peter Quill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but two upcoming movies are possibilities: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given the massive scale of these films – which involve multiple universes colliding and a major crisis – it would make sense for Quill to join the fight, as they’ll require everyone’s help.

In November 2025, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus mentioned that Star-Lord was originally planned to be in Avengers: Doomsday, but he wasn’t certain if that plan actually happened. Chris Pratt wasn’t announced as part of the cast during Marvel’s official presentation, so his appearance in the movie might be a surprise, or he could have a small part.

If Quill shows up in Doomsday, he might be one of the new heroes assisting Earth’s defenders while Doctor Doom attacks, since the main Avengers team will be occupied elsewhere.

Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is more likely to reappear in Avengers: Secret Wars because the film provides a new and exciting direction for his character’s story.

With rumors suggesting the Multiverse Saga will end with a ‘Battleworld’ storyline – where Doctor Doom builds and controls his own universe – Star-Lord (Quill) would be a natural choice to lead any rebellion against him. It’s worth noting that Quill was a key player in the 2015 Secret Wars event, surviving the initial chaos and waking up on Battleworld itself.
