Okay, let’s clear something up. I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online, and honestly, the claim that Simu Liu ruined the ending of Avengers: Doomsday is just plain wrong. He didn’t! It’s a bit of a misunderstanding, and I wanted to set the record straight.
Marvel is currently finishing up work on Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It’s expected to hit US theaters later this year, and a follow-up movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, is planned for release in 2027.
What did Simu Liu say about Avengers: Doomsday?
Okay, so there’s this clip going around of Simu Liu chatting with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson on Good Sports, and he says, pretty seriously, that “his life is in danger, for sure.” It’s gotten a lot of attention, and honestly, some people are totally misinterpreting it. They’re thinking he’s hinting that Shang-Chi won’t survive whatever big event – Doomsday, I guess – he’s talking about. It’s a bit of a misunderstanding, though!
Liu was playfully suggesting Marvel Studios is monitoring him, and he’s limited in what he can reveal about ‘Doomsday’ because Hart and Thompson were immediately asking for spoilers.
Marvel is being secretive about the plots of the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. However, Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi, has publicly stated that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in the works. He recently also told People magazine that he will be appearing in Secret Wars, which strongly suggests his character will survive the events of Doomsday.
I was so amused when Hart and Thompson playfully quizzed Simu Liu about those wild Avengers: Doomsday rumors! They asked him to confirm things like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. having a huge on-set feud, or even that the movie would be a full-blown musical. And you know what? Simu, being the good sport he is, just jokingly said they were all true! It was a really fun moment.
The next Avengers movie, currently titled ‘Doomsday,’ is scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will follow a year later, on December 17, 2027. You can currently watch the first ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ movie on Disney+, but a release date for the sequel hasn’t been announced yet.
