Ryan Coogler will direct the next Black Panther movie, continuing the incredibly successful franchise. The first two films, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, were both critical and commercial hits, establishing the series as a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before the third Black Panther film, these characters will play an important role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. This third installment will then continue their story in a new, currently unrevealed direction.
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, major changes happened within the royal family of Wakanda. Following the death of T’Challa (and reflecting the loss of actor Chadwick Boseman), his sister Shuri became the new Black Panther. The film also saw Shuri lose her mother, Queen Ramonda, and discover that T’Challa had a secret son named Toussaint, drastically altering the family’s relationships.
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies will probably significantly impact the characters from Wakanda. However, as we look ahead to Black Panther 3, here’s who we can expect to see return.
Marvel Characters Likely To Appear in Black Panther 3
Shuri

Given her role as the current Black Panther, it’s expected that Shuri (Letitia Wright) will return in the next Black Panther movie. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever focused on Shuri learning to embrace her responsibilities as Black Panther and lead Wakanda, especially while dealing with conflict with Talokan.
The character will get to demonstrate her abilities as a new superhero alongside the Avengers in both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Afterwards, her story will continue in a third Black Panther movie, where she’ll likely be a more experienced and recognized hero.
Nakia

So, after T’Challa and Nakia had a son, she decided to raise him away from Wakanda, choosing Haiti as their new home. It was really interesting to see her back in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever when Shuri needed help with the conflict with Talokan. But ultimately, Nakia’s heart was with her son, Touissaint, and she went back to Haiti to continue being a mom.
Because several Wakandan characters are expected to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, Lupita Nyong’o might return to her Marvel Cinematic Universe role before Black Panther 3. Even if she doesn’t appear beforehand, her character will likely play a key part in the third Black Panther film, acting as a mother figure and protector to the future king.
Okoye

I was really impacted watching Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Seeing her lose her position as a Dora Milaje was tough, but I admired how she bounced back. Becoming one of Shuri’s Midnight Angels and getting that awesome new suit felt like a fresh start for her. Honestly, I think this new role is going to make her a huge player in Black Panther 3, and I can’t wait to see what she does next!
M’Baku

Following Shuri’s time away, M’Baku became the King of Wakanda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Winston Duke will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, and depending on what happens to his character there, M’Baku is expected to be a key figure as Wakanda’s king in Black Panther 3.
Namor

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor initially appeared as the antagonist, declaring war on Wakanda to safeguard his underwater kingdom, Talokan. Ultimately, he formed an alliance with Shuri, and now fans are eager to see how his complex character will develop in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, with Tenoch Huerta reprising his role.
Given the growing connection between the Talokanil and Wakandan people, it’s likely Namor will appear in the next Black Panther movie.
Killmonger

Michael B. Jordan’s character, Killmonger, first appeared as the antagonist in Black Panther and remains an important figure in the story. He’s shown in a vision within the Ancestral Plane in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and also appears as an animated character in the Eyes of Wakanda series.
Given the character’s strong impact and fan base, it’s probable he’ll reappear in future Black Panther movies, potentially even in the third film. He could serve as a guiding figure for Shuri, or a different version of himself, depending on the storylines in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
A New Black Panther

Although Shuri is currently the Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, speculation is growing that another version of the hero could appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday due to the existence of the Multiverse.
It’s still unclear if the current Black Panther will continue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or if reports about recasting T’Challa are accurate. However, the next Black Panther movie will likely introduce a new character who takes on the mantle. The Multiverse allows Marvel Studios to potentially bring in a new actor to play T’Challa, and sources say they are considering this option.
Another option for the next Black Panther is T’Challa’s son, Touissaint, who could have matured considerably depending on how much time has passed since the last movie.
Denzel Washington’s Character

I was so excited to hear Denzel Washington let slip that he’s going to be in Ryan Coogler’s next Black Panther movie! It’s still a mystery who he’ll be playing, but just knowing he’s involved is amazing.
Denzel Washington is such a talented actor, and fans are excited about what role he might take on next. Some speculate he could play a major villain, while others hope to see him explore Wakanda’s history – perhaps even as the original Black Panther if the films ever go back in time.
