The Odyssey Prologue & Trailer Set Release Date for Theaters

Fans can expect to see the first look at The Odyssey in theaters soon, with a prologue and trailer scheduled for release.

When is the reported release date for The Odyssey prologue?

A special preview of the film The Odyssey – almost six minutes long – will be shown before IMAX showings of Sinners and One Battle After Another starting December 12th. Then, beginning December 19th, the official trailer for The Odyssey will play before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.

A new article in Empire Magazine shared details about an upcoming preview. It shows Odysseus and the iconic Trojan horse being pulled up a beach towards the city with ropes and visible effort. The preview builds anticipation for the battle scenes and concludes with a glimpse of the Cyclops.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca and a celebrated hero of the Trojan War. The story, The Odyssey, follows his difficult ten-year journey back home to his wife after the war. Along the way, Odysseus faces dangerous creatures from mythology, like the Cyclops and the Sirens.

Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, is inspired by the classic Greek story of the same name. It’s his first movie following the critically acclaimed Oppenheimer, which he directed and which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Universal describes their new film, The Odyssey, as a large-scale action adventure, a mythical story filmed using the latest IMAX technology around the globe.

Similar to many films by director Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey features a cast full of famous actors. Tom Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, while Anne Hathaway stars as Penelope, Odysseus’s wife. Zendaya portrays Athena, a goddess who is responsible for Odysseus’s safety. Robert Pattinson plays Antinous, one of the many suitors hoping to marry Penelope. Charlize Theron takes on the role of Circe, a powerful witch and goddess, and Jon Bernthal plays Menelaus, the king of Sparta.

The film also stars a talented ensemble cast including John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Lupita Nyong’o, Mia Goth, Will Yun Lee, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Corey Hawkins, Josh Stewart, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, and Logan Marshall-Green, among others.

The Odyssey will open in theaters on July 17, 2026.
