Just when you thought things couldn’t get any stranger with The Amazing Spider-Man: Death Spiral #1, prepare for an even bigger surprise! The upcoming issues promise to completely change the world of comics, bringing a massive and long-awaited showdown that’s been building across multiple series.
With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man #22, things got chaotic for the symbiotes in the Marvel universe. The situation escalated when Mary Jane Watson unexpectedly bonded with the Venom symbiote, creating a major crisis for Peter Parker. To make matters worse, Carnage is coming, and Eddie Brock now knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man – he learned it directly from the symbiote! Everyone needs to prepare for what’s coming.
But wait, there’s more — so much more.
According to Nick Lowe, this Spider-Man story is the most intense and dramatic one in ten years. It’s a truly dark and risky adventure that will test these characters like never before, and they might not be able to recover. Get ready for a wild ride!

The real danger might not be Carnage after all. The writers introduced a new serial killer, Torment, which forces Spider-Man, Venom (Eddie Brock), and Mary Jane Watson’s Carnage to face tough choices about their conflict. Will they keep fighting each other, or will they team up to stop Torment?
A Symbiotic Family Affair for Spider-Man
Soule recently discussed the upcoming comic book series, The Amazing Spider-Man: Death Spiral, which will be released early next year. Both he and Kelly were clear about what readers can anticipate from this take on the Spider-Man universe at Marvel.
The relationships between Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage, and Mary Jane are complex and deeply rooted in shared history – they function almost like a dysfunctional family. There’s a lot of built-up tension and drama within that dynamic. As writer Kelly put it, they then decided to add a serial killer to the mix, further complicating things.
It’s great that fans have plenty of Spider-Man content to enjoy while waiting for the upcoming events, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. These are both huge releases, with Beyond the Spider-Verse being particularly significant as it concludes the trilogy. Tom Holland’s next film starts a new trilogy, and there’s a lot more content coming, just like the amount of web-slinging action we’ll see with the Torment storyline in February.
The Amazing Spider-Man: Death Spiral is currently available for pre-order at local comic shops.
