Diddy has already spent several holidays in jail, and with a projected release date of June 4, 2028, he’s likely to miss many more. Even in prison, holidays are a unique time, and I’ve always been curious about how different facilities handle celebrations like Thanksgiving and Christmas. The contrast between Elizabeth Holmes’ Thanksgiving meal and what Diddy likely experienced perfectly illustrates this difference.
What Elizabeth Holmes (And Co.) Will Be Eating On Thanksgiving
Elizabeth Holmes, who founded the company Theranos and was featured in documentaries like The Inventor and the series The Dropout, is currently serving her sentence at a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas. Since starting her imprisonment in 2023, she has described life in prison as extremely difficult, but her situation is actually better than that of many other inmates.
Because Bryan’s prison is a minimum-security “camp,” meals there are a little different – inmates are allowed to have bones in their food. This means Holmes will actually get to enjoy a turkey leg with the bone still in it on Thanksgiving!
The meal will be served a bit early, around 11 am, and Ms. Holmes will receive a special treat prisons refer to as “turkey on the bone,” in addition to the usual vegetables and starches. According to prison consultant Sam Mangel, this isn’t just about the food – it suggests the prison staff trusts her.
The bones can be fashioned into weapons. [Drumsticks are] a step up in the trust level.
It sounds promising, but the prison expert clarified that the quality of the food is only decent when compared to the worst options available in prisons.
From my experience, those drumsticks often had a lot of tough tendons inside. They looked appealing, but didn’t have much meat on them and weren’t particularly high quality.
Holmes received an 11-year prison sentence, meaning she’ll be incarcerated for quite some time. Interestingly, she’s currently in the same prison as Jen Shah and Ghislaine Maxwell, and they’re all being served the same meals. This raises the question: what are other prisoners, like Diddy, eating today?
What Will Diddy Be Eating On Thanksgiving?
Similar to the women at Federal Camp, Diddy will have his large meal earlier in the day, but he won’t be able to choose a turkey with a bone. Fort Dix information indicates the main course will be a turkey roast with gravy. We’ve already shared that mashed potatoes and corn will be served as sides, and we’re now hearing that cornbread might be included too – so it’s a pretty starchy meal!
As another option, we’ll have soy chicken with vegetables. Later, you can choose between a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a deli sandwich, both served with potato chips.
The food selection isn’t bad, but you’ll immediately notice there are no bones in any of the dishes. This is a key difference between prisons, though not the only one. Also, many lower-security facilities provide inmates with regular silverware – actual knives and forks, instead of just sporks – as Mangel pointed out.
People outside of the camps won’t receive plastic knives. Instead, they’ll get sporks, which are designed to be safer and can’t be used as weapons.
While Thanksgiving and Christmas offer a slightly better experience for inmates like Diddy and Holmes, New Year’s Day is particularly difficult. Correctional officers are also candid about the low morale, making it a tough day for everyone, regardless of whether the meal includes bone-in turkey and metal utensils or sporks.
