‘Tron: Ares’ Digital Streaming Release Date Revealed

After a long wait, the third Tron movie finally came out in theaters last month. Like many movies today, it won’t be long before you can watch it at home – we now know when Tron: Ares will be available to stream and buy.

Joachim Rønning, known for directing films like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Young Woman and the Sea, directs Tron: Ares. The screenplay is by Jesse Wigutow (Daredevil: Born Again) and Jack Thorne (Adolescence). The film stars an Academy Award-winning actor (known for Morbius and Dallas Buyers Club) as Ares, a program from the digital world of “The Grid.” Ares escapes the digital world and enters the real world to undertake a perilous mission.

As a huge fan of the Tron universe, I’m thrilled to share that Tron: Ares is finally coming home! Disney has announced it’ll be available to stream and buy digitally – think Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and YouTube – starting December 2nd, 2025. And for those of us who still love physical media, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD versions will drop on January 6th, 2026. I’ve already marked my calendar!

Here’s Hoping ‘Tron: Ares’ Finds More Success on Streaming Than It Did at the Box Office

Despite a long wait, the new movie Tron: Ares didn’t quite live up to expectations, according to most critics. It currently has a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers liking the special effects and Nine Inch Nails’ music, but finding the story weak. However, audiences seem to enjoy it much more, giving it an 85% score on the Popcornmeter. Unfortunately, the film didn’t do well in theaters, which likely means the Tron series is over. MovieWeb’s Julian Roman was one critic who did recommend it, saying viewers should “Get your popcorn and 3D glasses ready, because Tron: Ares lives up to the hype.”

Joachim Rønning, known for films like Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean, directs this visually stunning and action-packed movie. It features a fantastic soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails. While the story follows a familiar path, it cleverly uses that framework to raise interesting questions about the possibilities of artificial intelligence. Considering the current rush to develop advanced AI, driven by wealth and ambition, the film’s premise feels very realistic. It asks a compelling question: what happens when AI becomes truly independent and starts making its own choices?

Okay, let me tell you, the cast for Tron: Ares is seriously impressive. Jared Leto leads the way, but he’s joined by some fantastic actors like Greta Lee, who I loved in Past Lives, and Evan Peters, who always brings something interesting to his roles. You’ve also got Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, Sarah Desjardins, and even the original Tron himself, Jeff Bridges! While we’re all counting down the days until it arrives on digital streaming, here’s a look at what the movie’s all about…

“TRON: Ares” tells the story of Ares, a very advanced artificial intelligence program, who travels from the digital world to our own on a risky mission. This event represents humanity’s first contact with true A.I.
