He’s played the character Daryl since the very beginning, starting with the first season in 2010, and has been a central figure throughout the entire run of The Walking Dead, right up to the finale.

Since the main show finished, the actor returned as his character in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which takes place in France and Spain as the character attempts to get back to the United States. The series has been popular with both critics and viewers, but it was recently announced that season four of Daryl Dixon will be the last.

Norman Reedus announced on X that filming for season 4 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has finished. He shared his appreciation for playing Daryl for many years and thanked fans for their ongoing support. Here’s what he posted about the wrap:

Season 4 will conclude the current storyline for Daryl, along with Carol, who began traveling with him in season 2. The third season of Daryl Dixon ended with their boat being destroyed by Fede, leaving them stranded in Spain again. But, Codron witnessed the explosion, hinting that they will soon be reunited.

It’s currently unknown whether season 4 will be the last appearance of Daryl and Carol within The Walking Dead franchise. Scott Gimple, the head of content, has hinted at wanting to reunite the main survivors from the various spin-off shows. Although a crossover hasn’t been officially announced, it’s probable that Daryl will return to the series in the future.

Once this spin-off finishes, only season 3 of Dead City will still be in the works for the franchise. Currently, the only other announced show is More Tales from The Walking Dead Universe, but it hasn’t seen any new updates since 2023. This leaves Daryl Dixon as one of just two remaining shows connected to the original series.

Norman Reedus’ departure might mark the end of an era for The Walking Dead, but it also opens the door to a new phase of the show.
