Supernatural Is Getting A New Streaming Home After 13 Year Run On Netflix

Next month, the popular series Supernatural will move from Netflix to a different streaming platform. The show, which first premiered in 2005, follows brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt supernatural creatures and search for their father, John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Supernatural became a huge hit and one of the most beloved shows on television.

After 15 seasons and 327 episodes, Supernatural concluded on November 19, 2020. The final episode, appropriately named “Carry On,” was a nod to the show’s unofficial theme song, Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son.” Even five years after ending, Supernatural remained popular on streaming services, but its availability on Netflix will soon be ending.

Fans of the show Supernatural should note some upcoming changes to where they can watch it. All 15 seasons will be removed from Netflix on December 17th and added to Prime Video on December 1st. Later in the month, on December 22nd, the series will also become available on Peacock. This shift signals a major change for longtime viewers of the show.

The popular show first appeared on Netflix in 2012, so it may take fans a while to adjust to it no longer being available there after 13 years. However, the show and Netflix had a successful partnership that was still benefiting the streaming service earlier in 2024.

During the first half of 2025, Supernatural ranked among the top 20 most-streamed shows, according to Nielsen. The show logged an impressive 11.9 billion minutes of viewing time on Netflix, landing it at number 15. This performance placed Supernatural ahead of popular series like HBO’s The White Lotus and the classic sitcom Friends.

With continued fan support and strong viewership on Netflix, Supernatural is expected to do well when it starts streaming on Prime Video and then Peacock in December. There’s also been a lot of talk – including from the actors – about potentially continuing the series. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have both expressed interest in revisiting the world with a sequel.

It’s still uncertain whether the story will continue in a potential season 16 of Supernatural or a completely new show. However, the show’s new streaming platform might be key. In June, Jared Padalecki indicated that Amazon will likely need to develop an idea for a sequel, as they currently control his availability.

Jensen Ackles was involved in several projects with the streaming service, including the now-cancelled show Countdown, season 5 of The Boys, and the Vought Rising prequel series. Now that Supernatural is available on Prime Video, there’s a possibility Ackles and the streamer could collaborate to revive the show.
