Monkey D. Luffy Officially Returns to the NBA in New One Piece Crossover Collection

Monkey D. Luffy from the popular series is teaming up with the NBA! A new collection of figures will show Luffy and the Straw Hat crew as basketball players, with Luffy himself shown performing impressive dunks.

The project aims to combine the worlds of One Piece and the NBA, bringing together the exciting battles from Eiichiro Oda’s series with the teamwork, energy, and competitive spirit of professional basketball. The first product is a special edition figure of Monkey D. Luffy wearing the jerseys of famous NBA teams like the Lakers, Bulls, Warriors, Celtics, Knicks, and Grizzlies. Called “One Piece x NBA Master Stars Piece The Monkey.D.Luffy,” the figure will be released on December 5th and costs 9,900 yen (about $65). It’s approximately 6.7 inches tall.

Luffy Returns in New One Piece x NBA Collaboration

Beyond the main figures, this collaboration will also include Tony Tony Chopper plush toys, expected to be available in March 2026. Just like Luffy, Chopper will be wearing jerseys from different NBA teams. Bandai also announced they’re working on an S.H.Figuarts Luffy figure for the collection, but haven’t announced a release date yet. In addition, Tamashii Nations will release a line called “Luffy’s One Piece x NBA -Uniform Icon Edition-” in 2026, showcasing designs inspired by the uniforms of 10 NBA teams. Bandai Spirits added that they plan to expand the merchandise even further with lifestyle items and more plush toys.

The first collectibles from the Master Stars Piece Luffy line will be available starting December 5th at the new One Piece Base Shop in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Fans in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand can purchase them online through the Bandai Namco Asia Official Shopee Store and Premium Bandai Asia. Select NBA Official Stores in those regions will also carry the figures soon after the initial release. Currently, it’s unclear if these collectibles will be sold in the United States.

The Straw Hat crew isn’t new to basketball courts! This latest collaboration builds on the success of a previous One Piece and Los Angeles Lakers event held on February 28, 2025. Those who went to that event may remember the new Master Stars Piece figure – it’s the same exclusive Luffy figurine that was given out then.

The NBA and Toei Animation have partnered up at a busy time for the anime series. Toei recently announced that after the current storyline (Egghead Island) ends, the show will take a three-month break starting in January 2026. It’s expected to return in April with the beginning of the long-awaited Elbaf arc. In a major change for the show, which has aired weekly for many years, the anime will switch to releasing episodes seasonally. This is being done to improve the quality and rhythm of the final part of the story.
