I’m so excited about Sam Mendes’ new film about The Beatles! I just heard they’ve cast a fantastic actor from Game of Thrones to play George Martin – you know, the incredible producer who really helped shape their sound. I think it’s perfect casting, and I can’t wait to see how he’s portrayed!
Giles Martin, son of the film’s producer, announced on the Ryan Tubridy Show on Virgin Radio U.K. that Harry Lloyd will play his father in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles film, The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Lloyd is recognizable for his early role as Viserys Targaryen in season one of Game of Thrones.
Record producer, songwriter, and composer Martin confirmed the actor playing his father is Harry Lloyd, saying, “My dad—I’m not sure if that’s been announced—my dad is very good.” He expressed confidence in Lloyd’s performance, adding, “He’s really good,” and believes he’ll portray the role well.
In addition to the previously announced Lloyd, the upcoming film The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event has revealed the actors who will portray the legendary band members. Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson will be John Lennon, Joseph Quinn will take on the role of George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr. The cast also includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey Tigrett, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, and James Norton as Brian Epstein.
Martin, often called the “fifth Beatle,” was essential to the band’s success and helped create the iconic sound we know today. He produced all but one of their 13 studio albums and won six Grammy Awards, including top honors for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
On the U.K.’s Ryan Tubridy Show on Virgin Radio, his son admitted it felt odd seeing an actor portray his father, but he wasn’t particularly bothered by it, saying he prefers to focus on his own life. He explained, “My life is strange enough already, so I don’t dwell on it. You just get on with what you do.”
Although a specific date hasn’t been announced, the movie event, The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, is scheduled to be released in April 2028.
