Daniel Craig’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery Finally Unveils Official Trailer

Benoit Blanc returns in a new mystery! Following the positive response to the previous film, Netflix has now released the official trailer for Wake Up Dead Man.

The popular murder mystery series began in 2019 with the film Knives Out, directed by Rian Johnson. Following its success, Netflix acquired the rights to a sequel, Glass Onion, which was released in 2022. The third film, Wake Up Dead Man, will have a brief theatrical run before becoming available on Netflix. The official trailer has now been released.

The trailer opens with a scene of Josh O’Connor playing Rev. Jud Duplenticy, who is then questioned by Mila Kunis’ character, Geraldine Scott. She confronts him, stating he was the only person with the Monsignor when something happened and that he clearly disliked him. She demands to know what went on.

Daniel Craig returns to the world of murder mysteries while Reverend Jud Duplenticy insists on his innocence. Detective Benoit Blanc hints that the case is far more complex than a typical investigation.

When a shocking murder occurs in town with no clear suspect, local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) teams up with famous detective Benoit Blanc to solve the baffling mystery. The case is being billed as Benoit Blanc’s most challenging one to date.

The latest victim is Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin. The suspects include members of his congregation – a group that features several potential killers. Among them are Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), groundskeeper Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), lawyer Vera Draven (Kerry Washington), politician Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny), and author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott).

The film Wake Up Dead Man premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was well-received, continuing the positive trend of previous installments. Currently, it holds a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 92 critic reviews, though audience scores aren’t available yet.

The first movie, released in 2019, remains the highest-rated installment, earning a 97% score from critics and 92% from audiences. It’s also been recognized as ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’. The follow-up, Glass Onion, was also well-received, with a 91% approval rating from critics and 92% from viewers, and it too received both the ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’ designations.

Knives Out’s Future Is Bright

Initially released as a single movie, Knives Out became a franchise due to its huge popularity with both audiences and critics. While it’s not yet confirmed if more films will be made, the future of the mystery series seems promising. Director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig have both expressed interest in revisiting the story.

Johnson recently explained the status of the films, confirming they are a three-part series. While he intends to create another installment, he hasn’t made a final decision yet and is considering all possibilities.

Craig said he’s happy to continue starring in films as long as Rian Johnson continues to write them. He explained that Johnson is a fantastic writer, making the acting process much easier because the quality of the script is already there.

Wake Up Dead Man premieres in select theaters on Nov. 26 before heading to Netflix on Dec. 12.
