Twenty years after its cancellation, the streaming service Friends has released eight previously unseen episodes of its spin-off, Joey. The show followed Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) as he moved from New York to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. It also reunited him with his sister, Gina (Drea de Matteo), and his young, intelligent nephew, Michael (Paulo Costanzo). Although the pilot episode was successful, the show struggled with negative reviews and declining viewership, despite being renewed for a second season.
Honestly, things started to go downhill for Joey about halfway through its second season. It actually went on a break for a while, but came back for one last episode in March 2006. Sadly, the ratings just kept dropping, and NBC ultimately cancelled it in May. It was a real shame because they’d already filmed eight more episodes that never got aired. It felt like the show never really had a chance to find its footing.

In the upcoming Season 2, Episode 21 of Joey (which hasn’t been released on the Friends YouTube channel yet), Joey and Alex start to explore a more serious relationship. At the same time, Gina and Jimmy hit a rough patch when a surprising secret comes to light.

As a big Joey fan, I’ve seen the unaired Season 2 finale, and it’s really interesting! It picks up right after Joey was thinking about maybe marrying Alex, after hearing about Gina and Jimmy getting engaged. But the main storyline is this hilarious fight between Joey and Michael to see who gets to be Jimmy’s best man. It’s a classic best friend dilemma and adds a lot of fun to the wedding planning!
