Marvel Studios has acknowledged a key limitation for Blade within the MCU, and it actually fits the character’s story. Marvel Zombies featured a fresh take on Blade – Blade Knight – and gave him a connection to Egyptian mythology. This version of Blade is now the chosen representative, or Avatar, of the god Khonsu in this zombie-filled world. Because of his natural vampire powers, he’s a significantly stronger host than previous versions.
As a huge fan, I have to say Blade Knight was seriously impressive in Marvel Zombies – he took down zombies left and right, and his sword skills were enough to handle even a zombified Ghost. But even with all that, Khonshu’s power wasn’t enough when Zombie Thor unleashed the Bifrost right on him – it was an instant kill. And speaking of Blade’s weaknesses, Marvel Studios recently dropped a new poster that showed us even more about what can hurt him, aside from that devastating Bifrost blast from Zombie Thor.
To build excitement for Marvel Zombies, Marvel Studios shared a new poster highlighting the powers and vulnerabilities of Blade Knight.
As a big fan, I’ve always been impressed by Blade Knight. The poster really highlighted what makes him special – he’s supercharged by Khonshu’s power, incredibly agile and light on his feet, and honestly, a really effective zombie fighter with that sword of his! You could *definitely* see all of that in action during the four-episode crossover series. It’s what made him such a strong ally and one of the most memorable characters in Marvel Zombies, in my opinion.
However, the poster also revealed Blade’s significant flaw: his usual weapon isn’t very effective against enemies with armor. This weakness might also apply to the main version of Blade in the MCU, as he’s likely to rely on a sword as his main weapon.
Because a sword has a limited reach, the Blade Knight can only defeat a small number of enemies at a time. This leaves him exposed and at risk when facing a large group of villains simultaneously.
Directed by Bryan Andrews, Marvel Zombies brought back many familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show starred Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch. Marvel Zombies first appeared on Disney+ on September 24, 2025.
Why Blade’s Glaring Weakness Could Still Be His Strength
Although Blade struggles against enemies with armor – a significant weakness – wielding a sword in combat naturally presents challenges. This could ultimately lead to his defeat if he doesn’t develop a more effective strategy.
However, the primary Blade in the MCU might recognize this significant flaw, something his more arrogant self in the Marvel Zombies universe doesn’t seem to. Perhaps Blade Knight felt secure with a powerful god like Khonshu supporting him, which caused him to struggle against armored enemies and eventually, led to his defeat.
The MCU’s Blade (who hasn’t officially appeared yet except for a voice cameo by Mahershala Ali in the post-credits scene of Eternals) could overcome the drawbacks of relying solely on his sword by being flexible in battle. He can do this by adapting to each fight, showcasing his wide range of combat skills, and cleverly using any available weapons he finds in his environment.
Although Blade Knight relies solely on his sword and exceptional powers, Marvel’s Blade is a more versatile fighter. This is largely because he has access to advanced technology and silver stakes. Furthermore, Blade is a skilled strategist, allowing him to effectively prepare for any fight when he understands his opponent.
