The game has seen one of its most significant declines in revenue so far, as player interest begins to wane.
A recent post on the r/PTCGP subReddit highlighted that Pokémon TCG Pocket experienced significant losses last month. September saw a dramatic 46.4% decrease in the game’s global downloads. This is the largest drop in downloads for Pokémon TCG Pocket so far, and the fifth time in the last six months that the game has seen an overall decline in downloads.
The number of downloads for Pokémon TCG Pocket has decreased, which has significantly impacted revenue, although it hasn’t been the largest drop the game has experienced since its release. In September, the game generated roughly $23 million in revenue, a 56.6% decrease. To put that in perspective, revenue fell 26.7% to $63 million in April, 33.8% to $53 million in June, and 28.3% to $38 million in July. Pokémon TCG Pocket saw a notable improvement in August, with revenue increasing by 39.5% to approximately $53 million.
Created by Creatures Inc. and DeNA, and published by The Pokémon Company, Pokémon TCG Pocket launched globally in 2024. This came after a successful initial release in New Zealand showed it was popular with players. Pokémon TCG Pocket provides a simpler way to enjoy the core Pokémon Trading Card Game experience. It differs from the main game by using smaller decks and, instead of traditional win conditions, uses a point system to determine the winner.
During its initial months, the game generated over $2.7 million in revenue on its first day and quickly exceeded $100 million in gross earnings within just two weeks. After ten weeks, Pokémon TCG Pocket had earned over $400 million overall, with daily revenue almost three times higher than that of Pokémon Go during the same period. Although Pokémon TCG Pocket saw an unexpected decrease in income in January, the introduction of new expansion sets like Space-Time Smackdown and the addition of Shiny Pokémon helped it bounce back quickly within weeks.
