Black Lake Looks Genuinely Unsettling
A new trailer released on Steam on July 22nd revealed the upcoming indie horror game, Black Lake, and it looks very promising. It creates a strong sense of dread reminiscent of the Silent Hill series, despite being an independent production.
The game follows Elena as she returns to the dilapidated orphanage of her youth, searching for her sister. This once-familiar building, described as being lost in darkness, holds terrifying secrets. Players will explore abandoned classrooms, flooded corridors, and hidden passages within Black Lake, gradually uncovering a disturbing mystery that perhaps shouldn’t be solved – especially for Elena.
Black Lake has a promising start as an immersive cosmic horror game with a story-focused first-person perspective. Beyond its creepy atmosphere, the game features interesting gameplay elements inspired by beloved classic horror titles.
It’s A Great Time For Horror Games
As you explore the spooky orphanage, you can use light sources like candles to create brief safe havens. You’ll need to use these moments to catch your breath before continuing. Besides finding these temporary safe spots, you’ll also rely on your phone to see ghosts and solve puzzles – much like in the game Fatal Frame. But remember, your phone’s battery is crucial for survival, so keep a close eye on it!
The game Black Lake will include a gun, as shown in its trailer. However, unlike games like Silent Hill, you won’t be able to defeat enemies by fighting them directly. Ammo is scarce and mostly useful for temporarily stunning monsters so you can escape.
Because popular cosmic horror shows such as Stranger Things have only inspired simple game tie-ins – like arcade games – titles like Black Lake are a welcome addition. They finally offer a full gaming experience for fans of the genre, and also bring fresh ideas to it.
