The Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise has seen several challenges throughout The Multiverse Saga.
Since Phase 4, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become more complex, but Marvel Studios has also encountered some challenges with its movies and TV shows. These challenges range from the impact of the pandemic to changes in storyline, including a shift away from the Kang the Conqueror character and towards Doctor Doom, all while trying to build a strong foundation for future Avengers stories.
So sad to hear about the cancellation of Blade! It’s a shame the project didn’t work out, but I’m still incredibly proud to have had my logo showcased at Hall H back in 2019. It was a great experience!

This comes only a few days after Kevin Feige broke his silence on the film’s development process, as he stated to the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, “I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.” As of writing, Marvel Studios has not addressed Claus Studios’ post.
The reported cancellation of the Blade movie comes just before Marvel Studios’ presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2026 – seven years after the project was first announced with Mahershala Ali and Kevin Feige in front of a large audience. So far, Ali has only portrayed the character through a brief voice appearance in the 2021 film Eternals.
Mahershala Ali, known for his role in Moonlight, has actually been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before. He previously played Cornell Stokes (aka Cottonmouth) in season one of Luke Cage on Netflix. Even after those Netflix shows were officially included in the main MCU storyline, it wasn’t clear how Marvel would explain him taking on two different superhero roles – especially since he was then cast as Blade.
The new Blade movie has had a troubled production. Several directors and many writers have worked on it over the past few years, leading to numerous changes and rewrites.
It’s still uncertain if Mahershala Ali will ever play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel could introduce the character in different projects, and many fans are hoping to see the Midnight Sons – a comic book team Ali’s Blade is a member of – appear in future films.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe already includes many supernatural characters, making it easy to incorporate Blade if he were to get his own movie or show. The main uncertainty now is whether Mahershala Ali would return to play Eric Brooks/Blade, since he hasn’t publicly discussed the role recently.
Although the Blade movie isn’t currently planned for the near future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are still several exciting projects coming in Phase 6. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, will be released in theaters on July 31st, and Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to follow on December 18th.
Disney+ has announced that VisionQuest will begin streaming on October 14th. The third season of Daredevil: Born Again is planned for March 2027. A second season of Wonder Man is also being developed, but it’s unclear when it will be released in relation to the ongoing Multiverse Saga.
For now, time will tell what the future has in store for Blade at Marvel Studios.
