Prime Video may have found its Westworld.
When the HBO sci-fi series Westworld debuted in 2016, it captivated audiences with its story about a theme park filled with lifelike androids. The show sparked a huge online community dedicated to unraveling its complex mysteries, though not all of those storylines received satisfying conclusions. After losing momentum, Westworld was canceled in 2022. Now, one of the writers from that show is working on a new horror project, alongside the former producer of the Arrowverse series.
Carly Wray, known for her work on Westworld and its intricate storylines, will be leading the new series Stillwater. Joining her is Greg Berlanti, a writer-producer with experience building successful franchises like Arrow and The Flash. Stillwater is based on a graphic novel by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K. Pérez and will be a one-hour drama consisting of eight episodes for its first season. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Skybound Entertainment, and will stream on Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video.
Stillwater is a thrilling and unsettling horror series centered around Daniel West, a man recently released from prison. He gets a strange letter hinting at answers about his history and a large inheritance if he comes to the town of Stillwater. Once there, he finds a bizarre community where people don’t age, death seems impossible, and no one can ever leave.
Wray and Berlanti announced their excitement about “Stillwater,” explaining that it’s more than just a story about living forever. They described it as a horror story exploring how far a town will go to maintain its immortality and what the true cost of endless life might be.
The creators are being lauded for building a truly remarkable world in the original graphic novel – one that is both frightening and emotionally resonant. They also expressed gratitude to Amazon, WBTV, and Skybound for their confidence in allowing them to adapt the popular story. They’re thrilled for both longtime fans and new audiences to experience the tale of Daniel West and the unsettling characters he encounters.
According to Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, Greg and Carly are incredibly talented storytellers who have successfully brought many famous characters and stories to the screen. Their new show, Stillwater, demonstrates their skill in combining a suspenseful horror story with thought-provoking themes about life, death, power, and community. She also expressed gratitude to Prime Video and Skybound Entertainment for their partnership on the project.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised “Stillwater” as a unique show that expertly mixes horror, mystery, and psychological thrills into something truly surprising. He highlighted the work of Greg Berlanti, Carly Wray, and the teams at WBTV and Skybound for building a world unlike any other – one that’s both disturbing and deeply emotional, keeping viewers captivated. Friedlander expressed excitement about bringing this compelling story to Prime Video’s global audience.
