The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is heading for big changes as its current storyline, the Multiverse Saga, nears its conclusion. However, heroes who focus on smaller, more personal conflicts – like Daredevil – still have plenty of stories to tell. Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdock has made Daredevil a fan favorite ever since he first appeared in the Netflix Marvel series Daredevil in 2015.
After a period of uncertainty between 2018 and 2022 about the character’s future, Marvel Studios made a great choice by bringing Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin.
After the events of season two of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock finds himself in a particularly dangerous situation as a vigilante. Fortunately, several other heroes are ready to protect Hell’s Kitchen while he’s unable to.
Matt Murdock Was Imprisoned At The End Of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Okay, so the Daredevil: Born Again finale was a game-changer. Matt Murdock finally revealed to everyone he is Daredevil, and it was a brilliant move. It was key to taking down Fisk – basically, it gave him the credibility he needed to testify about Fisk ordering the destruction of that ship, the Northern Star. It definitely worked; the city turned on Fisk, and Matt finally had the upper hand. But, of course, being so public with his identity came with a price, and things got complicated.
As Daredevil, Matt Murdock often breaks the law while fighting crime – things like using excessive force, entering private property without permission, and ignoring legal procedures. He does this to protect New York City, but his actions, done without any official control or accountability, frequently go too far.
There Are Two Characters Who Could Step In To Help Protect Hell’s Kitchen
At the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Luke Cage went back to Jessica Jones and their daughter, suggesting they’re prioritizing family life over superheroics. Because of this, it’s probably not going to be Luke and Jessica who take over protecting Hell’s Kitchen now that Daredevil is gone, although they may reappear for a significant future storyline.
Two characters connected to Matt Murdock – Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, and Elektra – are well-suited to take on the role of protector for those in need, as they don’t have many personal commitments and have the skills to do so. Danny has proven leadership experience, having led the team after the events of The Defenders, and Elektra has even taken on the Daredevil mantle in the comics.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Will Reunite Matt Murdock With His Old Allies
Even though Matt Murdock is currently in prison, his exceptional abilities and importance as a hero in New York suggest he won’t stay incarcerated for long. Plus, with filming of Daredevil: Born Again season 3 showing Finn Jones and Elodie Yung returning, a significant reunion seems all but confirmed.
Elektra’s story on the Netflix Marvel shows showed a complex character, but her return with The Defenders hints she’s found more peace and left behind her past connections to dangerous groups like The Hand. It appears she might be trying to make amends for her previous actions by stepping up as Daredevil while Matt Murdock is gone, as seen in season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again.
