The popular ’80s franchise was revived with a new movie in 2026, directed by Travis Knight, but it wasn’t well-received.
Despite a big promotional push from Amazon MGM Studios, the movie Masters of the Universe wasn’t a success when it came out in theaters on June 5th. Now, just two months later, the studio is releasing it on streaming. According to reports, Masters of the Universe will be available on Prime Video starting July 22nd.
Okay, so this movie skipped theaters and went straight to Prime Video after just under six weeks – that’s a pretty quick turnaround, and honestly, a little strange. But it’s not totally out of the blue for Amazon. They’ve done this before with films that weren’t initially huge hits. Remember Red One from last year? It surprisingly topped the charts over Christmas, and continued to be popular the year after! They’re trying something similar with Chris Hemsworth’s new crime thriller, and it will be interesting to see if this strategy works again.
Masters of the Universe will be available to stream on Prime Video on July 22.
