Jason Statham is heading towards murky waters in his new action thriller.
As a huge movie fan, I’ve always been drawn to Jason Statham. He consistently plays these incredibly capable, often heroic characters – guys who just get things done. It makes sense when you learn he actually has a background in martial arts like kickboxing and jujitsu! He almost always portrays someone with a special forces or assassin skillset. You’ve definitely seen him in some big franchises, though – he’s a major part of The Transporter series, The Expendables, and, of course, Fast & Furious.
Jason Statham has been consistently working on action films, with recent projects including The Beekeeper (2024), A Working Man (2025), and Shelter (2026). Now, Collider has shared a first look at his upcoming thriller, Mutiny. The image shows Statham with a gun aboard a cargo ship, where he plays Cole Reed, a former Special Forces soldier and police officer.
Framed for his former boss’s murder, Reed finds himself on a ship filled with the people who committed the crime. He intends to get revenge, but quickly realizes the situation is far more complex, with international consequences at play. This confined setting at sea offers a fresh, isolated backdrop for a Jason Statham-style action hero.
The action thriller Mutiny is scheduled to come out on August 21, 2026. The film stars Jason Statham, along with Annabelle Wallis (known for Malignant and Peaky Blinders), Jason Wong (The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man), Roland Møller (Land of Mine, Atomic Blonde), Arnas Fedaravičius, Adrian Lester, and Ramon Tikaram.
Jean-François Richet, the director of the recent survival thriller Plane starring Gerard Butler, helms Mutiny. Richet has a strong background in action and drama, having previously directed films like Blood Father and the highly praised Mesrine duology (Killer Instinct and Public Enemy No. 1), which makes him a great fit for Mutiny‘s realistic and gripping tone.
Jason Statham has two upcoming movies: The Beekeeper 2 and Fast Forever. His new production company, Punch Palace Productions, recently launched a film called Mutiny, which could become a successful series of its own if it performs well in theaters.
