Stephen King Calls Netflix’s New 8-Part Sci-Fi Series “An Absolute Delight” In Glowing Review

Stephen King has given a rare glowing review to this new Netflix series.

Stephen King is a celebrated author, widely known as the Master of Horror. He’s incredibly prolific, having written over 63 novels and 200 short stories, many of which have been adapted into hugely successful and influential films that continue to be enjoyed today. His career took off with the publication of Carrie in 1973, which quickly became a bestseller and spawned numerous adaptations. Since then, he’s written many other popular novels, including The Shining, Salem’s Lot, The Long Walk, The Running Man, and The Stand.

Stephen King shared his thoughts on the new Netflix sci-fi series, The Boroughs, on Threads. He gave it a strong recommendation, calling it “an absolute delight” and noting that all eight episodes are available to stream. The series is executive produced by the creators of Stranger Things, and King’s positive review has quickly generated a lot of buzz and encouraged viewers to check it out.

The film The Boroughs features a talented cast with many well-known actors, such as Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Jena Malone, Alice Kremelberg, and Denis O’Hare.

From the creators of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, this series follows a diverse group of heroes who discover a terrifying secret hidden within their idyllic retirement community. They must band together to save themselves and everyone else before it’s too late.

Speaking with Tudum, creators Addiss and Matthews explained their vision for the new series was to deliver a show with a full range of feelings. They aimed for something that was scary, mysterious, thrilling, and emotionally resonant all at once. Building a world that could effectively blend these different moods was a key challenge, and they credited the Duffer Brothers – known for expertly combining heart and horror – for making it a fun process.

A second season of the series is highly probable, given its unexpected success, though nothing is official yet. It’s received an incredible response, boasting a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – a rare achievement. Reviewers have called the first season “one of the best series Netflix has released this year” and perfect for watching all at once on the weekend.
