Evil star reveals what was in store for season 5 before the series’ demise.
Evil is a scary and thought-provoking horror series on Paramount+ that quickly earned critical praise over its four seasons. The show expertly mixes elements of religion, demonic forces, and criminal investigations. Created by Robert and Michelle King, it centers on Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist, David Acosta, a man training to be a priest, and Ben Shakir, a tech expert, as they explore cases that might involve possessions, miracles, or other unexplained events.
Even though Evil was canceled after four seasons, Colter shared that plans for a fifth season – including several developing storylines – had been in the works for two years after the show finished. Sadly, those ideas were ultimately abandoned.
Colter recently shared with The Direct some ideas the team had for season 5 of Evil. A major storyline would have focused on Kristen’s daughter, Lexis (Maddy Crocco), and a potential link to Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson). The show previously suggested Lexis might have supernatural abilities and hinted she could become a key player in the battle between good and evil.
The actor shared that the writers intended to further develop the complex romantic situation between Kristen, her husband Andy (played by Patrick Brammall), and David. Unfortunately, the show ended before they could fully resolve those relationships. Instead, the storyline took a different turn: Andy survived an attack but unexpectedly left his wife and children.
The show left one storyline hanging: David’s developing supernatural abilities. In the final season, he gained the power to see through other people’s eyes, which significantly altered the show’s direction. Actor Colter has said that future episodes would have explored these powers much more, possibly giving David the ability to influence or control others.
Since the show was cancelled, fans have been frustrated by several storylines that were never resolved. Though Evil received positive reviews and had a loyal following, the season 4 finale left many viewers feeling unsatisfied, as it seemed the series ended abruptly. With no current plans for a continuation, audiences feel the show didn’t receive the conclusion it deserved.
