Hulu is continuing with its planned series, but there’s been a significant casting change. An actress who starred in the original pilot and led to the show being ordered has left the project, and a new actress will be taking her place.
Kelli Berglund, known for her roles in Heels and Now Apocalypse, has been cast as a main character in the upcoming Prison Break series. She will play Cheyenne, an inmate on the show. Originally, Priscilla Delgado (from A League of Their Own and Euphoria) played the part in the pilot episode, but it’s currently unknown why the role was given to Berglund.
Kelli Berglund Lands Her Next Big Role
Kyla Rose Berglund is an actress known for her roles in several popular shows and movies. She played Crystal in the Starz wrestling drama Heels and appeared in the independent film Queen of the Ring. Earlier in her career, she starred as Bree Davenport in the Disney XD series Lab Rats and had a role in the Starz comedy Now Apocalypse. She’s also made appearances in shows like Animal Kingdom, The Goldbergs, and Doctor Odyssey, and in films including Hubie Halloween, Cherry, and Mark, Mary & Some Other People.
The new season of Prison Break will feature Emily Browning (Class of ’07), Drake Rodger (The Winchesters), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Clayton Cardenas (Mayor of Kingstown), JR Bourne (Teen Wolf), Georgie Flores (Famous in Love), and Myles Bullock (Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) alongside Berglund. Guest stars for the first season include Margo Martindale (The Americans), Donal Logue (Gotham), Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), and Sylvester Powell (All American: Homecoming).
Prison Break Is Returning on Hulu
A new take on Prison Break is moving forward after receiving a pilot order late last year. While set in the same world as the original series, this reboot features a completely new storyline and cast. Actress Browning stars as a former soldier who takes a job as a corrections officer in one of America’s most dangerous prisons, determined to help someone she cares about. It’s likely the show will also follow inmates attempting to escape.
Elgin James is the writer and showrunner for the new series, and he’ll also be an executive producer. Joining him as executive producers are Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neal Moritz, and Paul Scheuring, who created Prison Break. Olmstead, Adelstein, and Moritz were all executive producers on the original series, and 20th Television is producing the reboot once again.
I remember when the original Prison Break first aired – it was a total phenomenon! It wasn’t just the show itself, though. They followed it up with a TV movie called The Final Break, and even a spinoff series, Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, which was cool because you could watch it on your phone. But the story really expanded beyond television; there were video games, novels, and even comic books based on the series, which showed just how popular it became.
Hulu has not yet set a premiere date for the Prison Break reboot.
