Keanu Reeves’ Outcome Returns to No. 1 on the Charts Despite 27% RT Score

Keanu Reeves is famous for starring in many successful movies, including classics like The Matrix and Constantine, as well as the popular John Wick series. Interestingly, a film often considered one of his least popular is currently very popular on streaming services.

According to FlixPatrol, the movie Outcome is currently the second most popular film globally. It’s cracked the top 10 lists in countries like Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, and Colombia. Even more impressively, Outcome, starring Keanu Reeves, is the most-watched movie on Apple TV in Australia, Canada, the UK, and the United States.

What Is Outcome About?

The film centers around Reef Hawk, a Hollywood actor played by Keanu Reeves, who has been sober for five years after stepping away from his career. As Reef attempts to move forward with his life, he discovers someone is trying to blackmail him, throwing his progress into jeopardy.

Reef’s lawyer, Ira Slitz (played by Jonah Hill), informs him that a damaging video is circulating. Reef then begins to apologize to people he’s hurt in the past, hoping to uncover who is behind the blackmail attempt. The film also features Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, Cary Christopher, David Spade, Laverne Cox, and a number of other actors.

Outcome Was Not a Hit with Critics

Although the film had an interesting idea, it didn’t impress most critics. It currently has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on critic reviews, and a 30% audience score. On IMDb, it’s rated 4.5 out of 10 with nearly 10,000 reviews.

In a review for Variety, Guy Lodge questioned whether the film’s subdued lead could capture a wide audience, describing the movie as emotionally affecting but ultimately unengaging, even at a brief 84 minutes. Ian Freer of Empire Magazine felt the film simply needed a more skilled and authentic director.

Many negative reviews focused on Jonah Hill’s direction of the film. Peter Travers of The Travers Take described it as a humorless satire of Hollywood’s “cancel culture” and the tabloid media, adding that it wasted the talents of Keanu Reeves and a strong supporting cast with jokes that felt very outdated.

Like many successful streaming films, this dark comedy resonated with audiences despite its imperfections. Ultimately, it delivers enough entertainment to keep viewers hooked, making Outcome a streaming hit even with mixed reviews.
