Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the season 5 finale of The Boys. The show has finished its latest season, and one of its stars expressed surprise at their character‘s survival.
After seven years, the popular Prime Video series The Boys has come to an end with a typically shocking finale. The fifth and final season proved to be one of the most talked-about installments, following a record-breaking launch that drew 55 million viewers in its first 39 days.
Colby Minifie, who plays Ashley Barrett on The Boys, recently spoke with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender at the premiere of the final episode. She discussed the surprising ending of the series and how her character managed to survive despite facing numerous life-threatening situations throughout the show.
ScreenRant: Ashley has made it to the finale episode.
Colby Minifie: Can you believe it?
ScreenRant: That’s what I want to know. Can you believe it?
Colby Minifie was surprised and delighted to still be on the show after starting as a guest star in season one. She jokingly relates to a line her character, Ashley, says in episode seven – “I haven’t died. Do you know what a miracle that is?” – feeling like it’s a bit of a miracle she’s been able to stay with the show for so long.
Ashley Barrett’s story in The Boys has been captivating, and a little unsettling, ever since the first season. She began as a stressed-out, ordinary employee at Vought, but dramatically changed into someone fighting against the company she once wholeheartedly supported – a transformation fueled by her own desperate decision to use Compound V.
After seeing how truly dangerous Homelander (played by Antony Starr) was, Ashley lived in constant fear and did everything she could to stay out of his way. Later, she rose to become Vice President, and even briefly President, of the United States. Throughout it all, she was guided by a unique inner voice – a psychic twin who acted as her conscience – which ultimately helped save her and the team known as The Boys.
Even with overwhelming obstacles and constant loss around her, Ashley managed to survive, despite facing public criticism after losing the election. Many viewers have been as surprised and impressed by her resilience as the author, and her journey towards redemption is a significant part of the show’s ending. Considering how unforgiving the series is, Ashley’s survival is truly remarkable.
The Boys is available to watch on Prime Video.
