The show ended its five-season run with a thrilling finale. But don’t worry, Prime Video is letting fans know the story isn’t over yet!
The popular satirical superhero series is continuing with a new show called Vought Rising. This next installment, following the success of Soldier Boy in Season 5, will be a prequel, taking viewers back to the very beginnings of the superpowered individuals (supes). Prime Video announced Vought Rising just two days after the Season 5 finale.
What Happens in Vought Rising?
The episode opens in 1950s New York City, hinting at the backstory of the character Solider Boy. He declares his desire to be a hero, saying, “I want to fight for the flag.” Notably, a character previously killed off in the main series makes a return.
Okay, so the new trailer just dropped, and we get our first look at some new faces! Mason Dye is playing Robbie, also known as Bombsight, Will Hochman is Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey is Private Angel. But more importantly, it hints at a deeper dive into the seriously messed-up history of Vought International. And let me tell you, this minute-and-a-half clip confirms it: this series is going to be just as wild, violent, and twisted as the original. I’m already hooked!
Jensen Ackles will reprise his popular role as Soldier Boy in the upcoming season. He recently posted on social media to mark the end of filming for the latest season, expressing his gratitude and enjoyment of working with the cast and crew. He wrote a heartfelt message saying he loved being part of the show and will miss the fun they had creating it, signing off as Soldier Boy and hinting at a possible return.
After the clip was released, he posted the teaser with a message saying, “Here’s a sneak peek at something we’ve been making for you all. Get ready—we’re bringing you back in time!”
Paul Grellong is the showrunner and will also executive produce the series. He’ll be joined by executive producers Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, and Jim Barnes. Jensen Ackles and Dane Cash will also contribute as producers.
Vought Rising Is Designed for Multiple Seasons
Prime Video has initially ordered just one season of the prequel spinoff, but the show’s creators are already planning ahead. Jensen Ackles revealed that they hope to create multiple seasons, as the original pitch involved a story set in the 1950s focusing on Soldier Boy.
Eric Kripke, the creator of The Boys, has hinted that the show could continue beyond its current season, even though it has a planned ending. He explained that while the season will wrap up the main storyline in a satisfying way, it also sets up possibilities for future adventures and expands the universe of the show. Ultimately, whether or not it continues depends on those in charge.
This short preview follows the recently concluded and controversial Season 5 finale of The Boys. Reactions from fans were mixed, with some enjoying the ending and others expressing disappointment. One person described the online comments as “a bit of a hurricane and a bummer to read.”
He acknowledged that the current season isn’t resonating with everyone, possibly due to the slower pace or fewer large-scale action sequences. He admitted to closely monitoring fan reactions – perhaps a little too much – but explained that he intentionally approached the story from a specific perspective.
Vought Rising premieres on Prime Video in 2027.
