Everyone Is Flocking to Taylor Sheridan’s Best Yellowstone Spinoff in Years

Taylor Sheridan found major success with the Yellowstone universe, which began in 2018. Following five seasons of the original show and several spin-offs, the franchise is experiencing a resurgence with what many are calling its strongest spin-off yet.

As a huge fan of that modern Western series, I’ve been following all the spin-offs, and 2026 brought a whole bunch! But after becoming a real hit on regular TV this year, Dutton Ranch is proving exactly why we all fell in love with Yellowstone in the first place. Seriously, it took off – within just one day it was the most-watched show on Paramount+!

As a huge TV fan, I was really surprised to see Dutton Ranch become the most popular show in the US! It actually beat out South Park, and even another new sequel, Marshals. But it doesn’t stop there – it’s the number one show worldwide, too, surpassing South Park, Marshals, and even the original Yellowstone. It’s a real phenomenon!

What Happens in Dutton Ranch?

The new spinoff sequel series finale.

I’m really excited about this new series! It follows a family leaving Montana and their past behind in Yellowstone, only to find things are even tougher in Texas. They end up facing off against a really powerful, and frankly, pretty scary ranching family who will do anything to stay on top. It sounds like South Texas is a whole different world – a place where old grudges run deep, and just trying to survive could cost you everything you believe in.

As a huge fan of the original series, I’m so excited to see Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly back as Rip and Beth! And the cast they’ve added is incredible – we’re talking Oscar nominees Ed Harris and Annette Bening, plus rising stars like Finn Little, and familiar faces like Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, and Natalie Alyn Lind. It’s shaping up to be an amazing ensemble!

Dutton Ranch Is Among the Best-Rated Yellowstone Shows

Initial reviews for the new series were very positive after the review embargo lifted. While the score has dipped slightly as more reviews have come in, it remains impressively high at 83% and is currently “Certified Fresh.” Critics feel the new series successfully builds upon the strengths of the previous one, offering a familiar yet entertaining experience. Viewers who watched the first two episodes of Dutton Ranch gave it a 73% approval rating.

Both Yellowstone and its spinoffs have been well-received by critics and audiences. Yellowstone currently has an 83% approval rating from critics and 76% from viewers across all five seasons. The prequel 1883 earned an 89% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from critics and 78% from audiences. Its sequel, 1923, which ran for two seasons, received the highest critical score of the series with 94%, although audience approval was lower at 55%.

The newest spinoff, Marshals, launched on March 1st to the lowest ratings so far, with critics giving it a 42% score and viewers an even lower 27%. When including The Madison – which began as a Yellowstone standalone series before becoming its own show – the ratings improve to 63% from critics and 71% from the audience.
