A well-known actor and voice actor is probably getting ready to come back to the project. What’s consistently impressive is how the show’s incredible cast of voice actors is challenged by its intensely emotional stories and large-scale action sequences, truly testing their skills. Aaron Paul, known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Westworld, can certainly attest to that.
The Emmy Award-winning actor was deeply affected by playing Powerplex in Invincible. He decided not to return to the role after Season 3, and we’ll explain why shortly.
Paul shared a photo of an Invincible script on Instagram, likely from the upcoming fifth season, and added a short message.
“Some light reading,” he wrote.
Aaron Paul Changing His Mind, Returning to Invincible?
This immediately makes us wonder if Paul will officially return as Powerplex, and what his role will be. He was missing entirely from Season 4, but there’s a lot of potential for his story, especially after he was taken away for losing control of his anger around Invincible.
It will be fascinating to see if Powerplex truly changes his behavior, as it seems he might be having a change of heart. Also, Paul recently joined the cast of the popular Prime Video series Fallout, which probably helped pave the way for his return to Invincible.
What’s really puzzling fans is Paul suddenly changing his mind, especially after he previously gave clear reasons for leaving Powerplex.
Invincible’s Powerplex Was Too ‘Grueling’ — Arc Change Coming?
In Season 3, the intense pain and trauma driving Powerplex (Scott Duvall) were overwhelming. The character, a supervillain scientist, lost his sister and niece during Invincible’s fight in Chicago. This loss led him down a dark path, culminating in the accidental and horrific deaths of his own son and wife as he attempted to kill Mark Grayson.
Yeah, that’s a lot, as Paul himself described it.
You know, playing Powerplex really got to me. It wasn’t just a simple role; he was a character wrestling with a lot of inner turmoil. Honestly, stepping into his shoes was really uncomfortable. I tried, but I just couldn’t connect with the character enough to keep going. And it wasn’t a reflection on anyone else – everyone on the project was fantastic. It just wasn’t working for me, and I knew I had to step away.
He explained that after appearing in a few episodes, he was asked to return for the next season. However, despite being a big fan of the show – he watches every episode and has a lot of respect for the work they do – he found the experience emotionally draining and decided it was too much for him.
Now that Paul is involved again, it seems like they’ll move forward with the project. However, he’ll likely suggest resolving the issues with Powerplex during the break between seasons so he doesn’t have to constantly face difficult challenges every time they record.
