Aaron Paul might be coming back as Powerplex.
A recent behind-the-scenes image from Invincible season 5 suggests Paul will return to the show, despite previously announcing his departure after a difficult role. He joined Invincible in season 3 as Powerplex, a villain with electric powers who held Invincible responsible for a family tragedy during the Chicago destruction. Their conflict led to Powerplex unintentionally harming his own family, but he continued to blame Invincible. Paul initially stated in November 2025 that he wouldn’t reprise the role due to the emotionally challenging nature of Powerplex’s story.
Paul has hinted on Instagram that he’ll be returning as Powerplex in season 5 of Invincible. He shared a photo of an episode script with the caption “some light reading,” strongly suggesting he hasn’t finished playing the character. This seems to confirm he’s decided to reprise his role as the recurring villain, despite previously being unsure about returning to the show.
Check out what Paul posted below:
Although Paul wasn’t initially available to reprise his role as Powerplex in Invincible season 4 due to scheduling issues, he’s now set to return for future episodes. Robert Kirkman, the series creator, confirmed in March 2026 that Paul’s busy schedule made it difficult to arrange studio recording time for a relatively small part, as Powerplex is a recurring, rather than central, villain.
It’s good news for fans: Paul will continue to play his role in Invincible for the upcoming season 5, allowing his story to continue. This news follows his casting in season 3 of Fallout, meaning he’ll be featured in two major Prime Video shows. Powerplex has a significant backstory in the Invincible comics, making his return crucial to the overall plot. Although it’s unknown exactly how the show will adapt his story, the current direction suggests season 5 will be very important for his character.
I’m really glad Paul’s coming back to Powerplex! It’s good to know they’re keeping his voice consistent, even though the show has definitely recast characters before. Remember Titan? Mahershala Ali voiced him in the first season, but then Todd Williams took over. And William, Mark’s friend, went from being voiced by Andrew Rannells to Brandon Scott Jones in season four. But with Paul, it feels different. He’s such a big part of the show, and it’s awesome they’re bringing him back to finish out his really emotional storyline.
Fans can expect season 5 of Invincible around 2027. The new season will deal with the fallout from the Viltrumite War and the new dangers Earth will face afterward. Powerplex will play a key role in these events, as he continues to grapple with grief and seek revenge alongside the main character.
