Agatha Christie is a timeless and incredibly popular author, and her stories have been adapted into movies, TV series, and stage productions for many years. Now, a new film based on her work is coming out with a unique take.
A new movie, called Eleven Missing Days, will feature Agatha Christie as the main character. Unlike most adaptations of her work, this noir mystery thriller isn’t based on one of her novels. Instead, it tells the story of the real-life mystery surrounding her eleven-day disappearance.
What to Expect From Eleven Missing Days?
Fortitude International is bringing a new noir mystery thriller to the Cannes market. The film stars Felicity Jones, who has been nominated for two Oscars for her roles in The Theory of Everything and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and César Award winner Vincent Cassel (La Haine).
“Eleven Missing Days” tells the story of Agatha Christie’s real-life disappearance in December 1926, when the famous author vanished from her home, becoming a national headline. The story explores the investigation into what happened, and how it mirrored the plots of her own mystery novels – with everyone around her becoming a suspect.
Vincent Cassel stars as a former Belgian detective who reluctantly investigates a new case, reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s iconic Hercule Poirot.
Bertie Ellwood, known for her work on Silo, will direct Eleven Missing Days. The screenplay is by Ernesto Foronda, who also wrote Better Luck Tomorrow, and is adapted from the book Agatha Christie and the Eleven Missing Days by Agatha Christie expert Jared Cade.
I remember when the news broke about the author vanishing – it was huge! It grabbed everyone’s attention, and soon politicians and other writers, even someone as famous as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, were involved in trying to find them. Honestly, even now, nobody really knows what happened, and it’s still a complete mystery.
What Other Agatha Christie Adaptations Are on the Way?
Agatha Christie adaptations remain incredibly popular, with many more films and series planned. 2026 began with a new limited series based on her 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. This murder mystery centers on Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, an amateur detective who investigates a string of deaths connected to a mysterious group known as “The Seven Dials,” after a joke at a house party takes a deadly turn.
I was really excited to see the cast for this adaptation – Corey Mylchreest, who I loved in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, was fantastic, and they even got some big names like Martin Freeman from Sherlock and someone from the Harry Potter films! Rounding out the ensemble were Mia McKenna-Bruce, Ella Bruccoleri, and Iain Glen, which felt like a really strong lineup.
In 2025, the BBC will release a three-part series based on Endless Nights, written by Sarah Phelps. BritBox will also be adapting Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence into a six-episode modern update, and the BBC and BritBox are co-producing The Detection Club, a series that imagines the life of the author.
More actors will be announced for the upcoming film, Eleven Missing Days, a noir mystery thriller. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date.
