Fans can now watch the first episode of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes for free on YouTube! Cartoon Network has brought back the popular, quirky animated series with this revival.
The first episode of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes features two stories. In “Fix That Tape,” Pops finds himself in the afterlife on a mission to repair his beloved tape of Mordecai and Rigby. Meanwhile, “Skip’s Luau” sees Mordecai and Rigby accidentally colliding with Benson, causing them to miss out on a big party hosted by Skip.
Regular Show Returns With The Lost Tapes
The first episode of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes premiered on Cartoon Network on May 11th, and was later released on YouTube. Cartoon Network originally announced the return of the series two years prior, at the 2024 Annecy Animation Festival. The new season is planned to have 40 episodes.
J.G. Quintel created the Cartoon Network show Regular Show, which ran from 2010 to 2017. The show, including its final season which was called Regular Show in Space, had a total of 244 episodes.
What Is Regular Show About?
The original Regular Show was known for its distinct sense of humor, and this first episode of Regular Show: The Last Tapes continues that tradition.
Regular Show follows the funny escapades of best friends Mordecai, a blue jay, and Rigby, a raccoon. They’re both pretty lazy and work at a park, but they try to do as little work as possible.
The show usually centers on Mordecai and Rigby, who do anything to get out of work, much to the frustration of their boss, Benson, a gumball machine. Their misadventures often involve the other park employees, like Skips the yeti, Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost, and Pops. The voice actors include Quintel, Sam Marin, Mark Hamill, William Salyers, and Janie Haddad Tompkins.
Regular Show Is a Critically Acclaimed Animated Classic
Regular Show was a standout animated series of the 2010s, earning high praise with a 96% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and winning several Annie and Emmy Awards. Creator J.G. Quintel has mentioned the show concluded simply because the writing team felt they had exhausted their ideas for future episodes.
Honestly, finishing this project was a real puzzle. We were under a lot of pressure to deliver something fans would love, while also pushing ourselves creatively after doing so much over the years. It felt like we’d exhausted all the obvious ideas – constantly thinking, ‘Haven’t we done this before?’ But we actually managed to come up with a ton of new stuff, things we’d never even considered before. I think it really worked because we were bringing a long story to a close, and that allowed us to take risks we wouldn’t have otherwise.
After a nine-year break, Quintel has come up with fresh adventures for Mordecai and Rigby! You can watch new episodes of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes on Cartoon Network, and later this year, they’ll be available to stream on Hulu in the U.S.
