The Boys Is Missing What Made Its Greatest Action Scene Unforgettable

I’ve been a huge fan of The Boys for years, and honestly, nothing has quite matched the intensity of that incredible action scene from four years ago. The show, like a lot of superhero content, is full of conflicts and big fights. Sometimes these fights are a bit unfair with someone like Homelander just dominating, but the best ones are when we get to see a real, even match between powerful supes.

Unlike many superhero stories, The Boys doesn’t focus primarily on big action sequences and special effects. While Marvel and DC films aim for a polished, impressive superhero experience, The Boys often uses special effects to emphasize the violence and ridiculousness of its universe.

The show is known for its characters dying in shocking and gruesome ways, which makes its action sequences feel more intense and unsettling than typical superhero fights. However, the latest season seems to have lost that edge. Compared to the standout action scene from season 3, the fights in this final season feel surprisingly flat and uninspired.

The Boys Season 3’s Herogasm Showdown Makes Season 5’s Fights Look Boring

For the first three seasons of The Boys, Homelander appeared invincible. The Prime Video series established him as the most powerful being in a world filled with super-powered individuals. But in season 3, the show began to suggest that a real challenge to Homelander’s dominance was emerging with the introduction of Soldier Boy.

Throughout the season, even Billy Butcher and Hughie started using Temp V, which ultimately led to a confrontation with Homelander. Although the show’s ‘Herogasm’ storyline wasn’t as wild as some fans expected, the season still delivered an incredible superhero battle.

The fight in Herogasm unfolds with incredible precision. It starts with Homelander seemingly killing Billy Butcher with a laser blast, sending him crashing to the ground. But while Homelander focuses on battling Soldier Boy, Butcher unexpectedly gets back up and retaliates.

Homelander appears unusually vulnerable after his fight with Butcher, standing stunned and speechless. Throughout the first three seasons of the show, he always seemed fearless and readily killed other superpowered individuals. But the events of Herogasm reveal a different side of him, showing him scared and helpless – a first for the seemingly invincible character.

Okay, so it was a total team effort, but Butcher, Hughie, and even Soldier Boy actually managed to bring Homelander down! Soldier Boy almost finished him off with those crazy heat blasts, but thankfully, Homelander could fly, and that’s what saved his skin. It was a close call, though!

The fight in ‘Herogasm’ felt much more impactful than those in seasons 4 and 5 because the consequences truly mattered. The special effects were well-done, enhancing the characters’ powers without being excessive. In comparison, the fights in season 5 often looked like ordinary brawls, with the super-powered characters hardly using their abilities.

Even powerful characters like Ryan, Homelander, Bombsight, and Soldier Boy mostly just rely on basic fighting instead of fully utilizing their abilities. This makes the action in The Boys feel noticeably weaker and less impressive after the third season.

The Boys Season 5 Really Needs To Up The Ante Of Its Action Sequences

As The Boys approaches its final two episodes of season 5, the show is building towards a climactic ending. To really stick the landing, the next episodes need to deliver action scenes as memorable as the Herogasm fight. Now that Homelander has obtained V-One in episode 6, the danger and tension have reached an all-time high.

Similar to season 3 of The Boys, seasons 4 and 5 are gradually leading to a massive confrontation between the seemingly unstoppable Homelander and anyone who opposes him. When this final battle happens, The Boys shouldn’t just focus on physical fighting – it should fully showcase the devastating extent of its superheroes’ abilities.

Now that Homelander has taken V-One, he’s reached his full potential. However, if his final fight consists of just basic punches, kicks, and heat vision, it could be a letdown. The show has built up these heroes as beings who can destroy cities, so the battle needs to reflect that scale.

Let’s hope the final episodes of The Boys season 5 are strong and redeem some of the weaker storylines we’ve seen up to this point.
