The lawsuit between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively is now over, as the two have reached a settlement. Shortly after, Baldoni’s popular show unexpectedly became available on demand, quickly climbing the charts.
I’m so thrilled to see Jane the Virgin getting the recognition it deserves! It’s currently in the Top 25 TV shows on the Apple TV store, thanks to FlixPatrol, and I think it might climb even higher now that Justin Baldoni is back in the headlines. It’s clear the recent news about the legal settlement has brought the show back into the spotlight, and I’m happy more people are discovering (or rediscovering!) how amazing it is.
Justin Baldoni Rose to Fame on Jane the Virgin
Justin Baldoni became well-known for playing Rafael Solano on the show , which aired on The CW for five seasons from 2014 to 2019. The story begins with Rafael, now a successful hotel owner, unexpectedly reconnecting with Jane (Gina Rodriguez) years after they had a teenage crush on each other. A surprising medical error leads to Jane becoming pregnant with Rafael’s child, even though she hadn’t had any intimate relationships. As the baby’s father, Rafael gets deeply involved in Jane’s life and becomes a major romantic interest throughout the series.
Jane the Virgin was a hugely popular show and achieved something very rare: a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for all five seasons. It also received a lot of recognition at awards shows, winning Golden Globes and Teen Choice Awards, among others.
Beyond acting, Baldoni has become a successful filmmaker. He started Wayfarer Studios in 2019 and has directed films such as Five Feet Apart and Clouds. He’s most recognized for directing the 2024 romantic drama It Ends with Us, which is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel. The film gained attention partly due to a public disagreement between Baldoni and one of its stars, Blake Lively.
The Legal Battle Ended With a Settlement
As the movie It Ends with Us was being promoted, reports emerged of conflict between stars Brandon Baldoni and Colleen Lively. The dispute became public when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and filed a lawsuit, alleging he and his team tried to ruin her reputation online. Baldoni then sued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others, claiming he was the victim of a smear campaign.
The lawsuit concluded just weeks before it was scheduled to go to trial, with a settlement reached on May 4th. Both parties issued statements expressing their desire to resolve the conflict and move forward. The specific terms of the agreement were not made public.
Jane the Virgin is available on the Apple TV store and other PVOD outlets.
