High Potential season 3 is returning with a new duo in charge.
I was a little worried when I heard Todd Harthan was leaving High Potential after two seasons, but I’m really excited about who’s taking over! Variety just announced that Nora and Lilla Zuckerman will be the new co-showrunners and executive producers starting with season 3. I’m a big fan of their work and I think they’ll do a great job with Kaitlin Olson and the show!
The Zuckerman sisters previously led the creative team on Peacock’s Poker Face, a mystery series created with Rian Johnson. They were also set to write, produce, and showrun the planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Hulu, but that project was canceled. Now, in addition to their work on the new series High Potential, they’re also writing the script for the next Scream movie, the eighth installment.
As a huge TV fan, I was really interested to hear about Lilla and Nora Zuckerman’s next move. They’re now showrunning season three of High Potential, and it turns out this all falls under the same deal they have with 20th Television that was also meant to cover a continuation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The Zuckermans themselves said they’re thrilled to be working on High Potential and to keep developing Morgan’s story. It’s exciting to see where they’ll take things!
We’re thrilled to be partnering with Craig, Karey, Simran, and everyone at 20th and ABC as we begin this new phase of High Potential. Working with Drew, Sarah, Andrea at Goddard Textiles, and the incredibly talented Kaitlin Olson is a fantastic opportunity. We can’t wait to explore the complex and fascinating world of Morgan Gillory and create compelling mysteries that match her intelligence.
ABC’s popular crime comedy is going through some changes before its next season. In addition to a new showrunner, Steve Howey, who plays Nick Wagner, will be a series regular starting in season 3. While his character’s fate was unclear at the end of season 2, it was later confirmed that Howey would return, now as a main cast member.
Olson’s show, High Potential, is a hit for ABC, following Morgan Gilroy, a brilliant consultant who works with the LAPD. It’s become one of the network’s most popular shows, breaking viewership records in its first two seasons. The recent season 2 finale, for example, drew over 12.69 million viewers within its first week.
The cast of High Potential features Kaitlin Olson, Dan Bakkedahl, and a talented group including Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, and Judy Reyes. Season 2 also included guest appearances by notable actors like Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mekhi Phifer, and Susan Kelechi Watson.
Drew Goddard created the show High Potential, which premiered on ABC in 2024 alongside popular series like Abbott Elementary, 9-1-1, and The Rookie. While ABC hasn’t announced a release date yet, High Potential season 3 is likely to return in fall 2027.
