In Just 1 Day, Netflix’s New Michael B. Jordan Film Becomes an Instant Global Hit

Netflix’s new animated film is quickly becoming a worldwide success. “Swapped” is already number one in many countries.

According to data from FlixPatrol, Jordan’s new animated film, Swapped, where he voices a character named Ollie, quickly became a hit after its release on Netflix on May 1st. It reached #1 in 4 countries immediately and then climbed to the top spot in 32 countries, including the United States, within a day. While Swapped was incredibly popular, another film still held the #1 position on Netflix’s global charts as of May 3rd, with 860 points—though Swapped was close behind with 813. To put that in perspective, the film in third place, My Favorite Wedding, only had 273 points.

Swapped Is Already Enchanting Critics & Audiences Alike

One reason Swapped quickly became popular on Netflix is its sweet and classic story. It centers around Jordan, a little forest animal, and Ivy, a beautiful bird (voiced by ). Though they’re natural enemies in their valley, a magical switch transforms their lives, sending them on a touching adventure.

Alongside Jordan and Temple, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, and Justina Machado lend their voices to Swapped. Nathan Greno directed the film, which was written by John Whittington, Christian Magalhaes, and Robert Snow – the team behind The Lego Ninjago Movie.

The new Netflix movie is generally receiving good reviews, with 65% of critics giving it a positive rating based on 26 reviews. While it hasn’t earned the ‘Certified Fresh’ label yet, its rating could change as more viewers watch it. Currently, opinions are mixed – some find it lacking compared to other films, while others are enjoying its vibrant animation and strong performances from the actors.

People are responding well to the movie, and it currently has an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 100 reviews. Many viewers liked the story’s unexpected twists, and one reviewer gave it a perfect 5-star rating, saying, “This is a truly unique animated film, and the voice actors are fantastic!”

Despite being available on Netflix, the movie Swapped was actually animated by Skydance Animation, who first gained recognition in 2022 with Apple TV’s Luck. In 2024, Skydance created another animated fantasy film for Netflix called Spellbound, featuring the voices of Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, and Jenifer Lewis.

The studio is working on several projects, one of which is a sci-fi mystery called Ray Gunn. This film, starring Sam Rockwell and Tom Waits, will be released on Netflix later this year. It’s set in a futuristic world with both humans and aliens, and follows Ray Gunn, who is the last human detective.
