Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord episode 7-8
The ‘Maul – Shadow Lord’ update lets players achieve a rare feat with Darth Maul in the Star Wars universe – a record previously held by only two other characters in official canon.
Set a year after the Empire’s rise, Maul – Shadow Lord follows Darth Maul as he navigates the Imperial regime’s attempts to eliminate him. He’s working to regain his influence in the galaxy’s criminal underworld, as he had during the Clone Wars, and is trying to train a Jedi survivor, Devon Izara, as his new apprentice. But his plans are complicated by the arrival of two powerful Imperial Inquisitors, as shown in the recently released episodes 7-8 of Shadow Lord.
Even though the Empire’s Inquisitors are formidable opponents, Maul has a chance to achieve a significant milestone in the world of Star Wars. If he defeats one of these Jedi hunters before Shadow Lord concludes next week, he’ll add an impressive feat to his history.
Marrok And The Crow Are Hunting Maul And Two Jedi Survivors In Shadow Lord
Marrok was the first Imperial Inquisitor to reach Janix, but he now has help. Episodes 7 and 8 of Maul – Shadow Lord reveal the arrival of another Inquisitor, known as The Crow or the Eleventh Brother. Together, Marrok and The Crow have been given a direct order from the Emperor: to eliminate Maul and also hunt down the two remaining Jedi, Devon Izara and Master Daki.
Okay, so episode 8 of Shadow Lord was seriously cool! We finally got to see Marrok and the Crow go head-to-head with Maul in a fantastic lightsaber fight. They really pushed him, and eventually trapped him in some caves because of his messed-up robotic leg. He used the Force to cause a cave-in and get away, promising a rematch down the line. Honestly, if they fight again, I have a feeling it’s going to be even more dangerous. I’m already excited to see what happens next!
As a big Star Wars fan, I’ve been thinking about the implications of Maul killing Marrok. We already know The Crow meets his end at the hands of Ahsoka, as shown in Tales of the Jedi, but if Maul takes out Marrok, it would really add up when you consider how many Inquisitors he eliminates throughout his whole story. It’s a detail that could significantly impact how we view his overall arc and just how ruthless he was.
One More Inquisitor Kill Will Tie Maul With Darth Vader And Ahsoka Tano
If Darth Maul defeats Marrok in Shadow Lord, he’ll be one of only three characters in Star Wars canon to have killed three Inquisitors, putting him in the same league as Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader.
As a huge Star Wars fan, it was pretty shocking to see Darth Vader take down the Second Sister in Jedi: Fallen Order. But it wasn’t just her – he also killed the Thirteenth Sister and Tualon Yaluna! Apparently, in the 2017 Darth Vader comic series (which is officially part of the Star Wars story now), he found out those two Inquisitors were having a secret relationship, and well, Vader doesn’t take kindly to rule-breakers, especially when it comes to forbidden romance.
In the official Star Wars story, Ahsoka Tano defeated the dark Jedi known as the Sixth Brother, and she took his corrupted kyber crystals to create her signature white lightsabers, which first appeared in Rebels. She also won a battle against The Crow in Tales of the Jedi. More recently, in the 2023 Ahsoka series, she defeated Marrok, who had been resurrected by Nightsister magic after his initial death during the New Republic era.
In the upcoming Shadow Lord series, if Maul defeats Marrok, he’ll have killed three Inquisitors. He already defeated the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother near the end of Star Wars Rebels. Whether this happens in the final episodes of Shadow Lord or its second season remains to be seen, but it would be interesting to see Maul become part of a small group of Star Wars characters who have killed Inquisitors – a group currently consisting only of Darth Vader and his former apprentice, Maul himself.
The first season of Maul – Shadow Lord will conclude with its final two episodes becoming available on Disney+ starting May 4th, which is also known as Star Wars Day.
