Nature lovers, get ready for NBC’s epic new docuseries, Surviving Earth.
In 2025, NBC debuted the impressive 10-part series The Americas, narrated by Tom Hanks and showcasing wildlife from around the world. Now, NBC is preparing a new, major documentary series that will transport viewers back millions of years. Surviving Earth, an eight-episode series, is scheduled to premiere on June 11th, and ScreenRant is sharing the exclusive trailer.
I’m really excited about Surviving Earth! It’s going to explore how life on our planet has weathered incredible challenges, going all the way back 450 million years! While it definitely acknowledges the huge disasters and extinctions that have happened, it’s ultimately a story about resilience. I’m especially intrigued to learn about the species – and even creatures I’ve never seen before – that not only survived, but actually came back stronger after each catastrophe. It sounds like an inspiring look at life’s ability to bounce back.
ScreenRant’s 2026 TV preview offered a first look at the Baby Spinosaurus, a creature featured in the upcoming series, Surviving Earth. Announced in 2022, the documentary is executive produced by Tim Haines, the creator of the popular 1999 series Walking with Dinosaurs. While dinosaur enthusiasts will be especially excited, Surviving Earth will explore a wide range of species from throughout Earth’s history.
Similar to Walking with Dinosaurs, Surviving Earth will use computer-generated imagery (CGI) to bring incredible stories of survival from Earth’s past to life. The technology will also create stunning visuals of dramatic events like meteor impacts, volcanic eruptions, changing sea levels, and extreme heat waves. We’re also excited to share the official artwork for Surviving Earth.
As a huge nature doc fan, I’m really excited about NBC’s plans for June! They’re bringing back The Americas on June 4th with two episodes back-to-back, and then the following week, Surviving Earth finally premieres in primetime at 8 pm ET. If you loved The Americas when it first aired in 2025, it’s totally worth checking out again – they’re re-airing episodes at 9 pm ET each week, and I’ve heard this version has some great updates!
As a critic, I’m getting a preview of NBC’s summer lineup, and it looks like they’re pairing a rerun of the fantastic nature docuseries, Surviving Earth, with a lighthearted companion piece called The Americas: Fun Fact Edition. Don’t think of this as just a re-airing, though! NBC is promising a boosted experience with behind-the-scenes glimpses and, interestingly, a whole bunch of ‘fun facts’ added in. It sounds like they’re aiming to give both new viewers and dedicated fans something fresh to enjoy.
After the huge popularity of The Americas, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding Surviving Earth, particularly since it’s been in the works for a while. It will be fascinating to see how NBC develops its nature documentaries going forward, and if we’ll see more projects focused on the natural world. In the meantime, viewers can enjoy Surviving Earth and The Americas: Fun Fact Edition this summer.
Don’t miss the premiere of Surviving Earth on NBC, June 11, 2026, at 8 pm Eastern. New episodes will air every week. Before that, catch a special two-episode repeat of The Americas: Fun Fact Edition starting June 4th at 8 pm ET, which will continue to air after each new episode of Surviving Earth through July 30th. You can also watch episodes on Peacock, starting the day after they first air.
