As a huge fan of The Lincoln Lawyer, I’m really excited about season 5 being based on Resurrection Walk. But honestly, it also makes me a little bummed out. The book has this big betrayal and, more importantly, a connection to the Harry Bosch universe that I don’t think we’ll ever see on screen. It’s a shame, because I’d absolutely love to watch Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Mickey Haller) and Titus Welliver (Harry Bosch) share a scene together – that would be amazing!
The show feels incomplete without Harry Bosch. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn’t have the rights to use the character, and it’s unlikely Prime Video, which currently features Bosch in the ‘Ballard’ series, would allow him to return. Over the last four seasons, the show has essentially tried to fill the void by focusing on other characters.
As a big fan of both The Lincoln Lawyer and Bosch, I’m really excited about the introduction of Emi Finch. She’s stepping into some big shoes as the new investigator, and it sounds like she’s going to be key to Mickey Haller’s latest case this season. I’m getting a vibe that she’ll also stir things up in Mickey’s personal life, a little like Harry Bosch did when we first met him in the books. But from what I’ve heard, their dynamic will be unique and bring its own twists to the story.
The new series will need to tone down some of the more intense emotional scenes. For example, a particularly powerful moment involving Maggie’s betrayal in court relies heavily on Titus Welliver’s performance as Harry Bosch, and won’t be as effective without him. Leaving the scene in will only highlight his absence.
Maggie’s Betrayal Is The Most Shocking & Infuriating Moment Of Resurrection Walk
Okay, so before things really kick off in Resurrection Walk, Mickey and Maggie had a pretty rough split. Because of that, she doesn’t feature heavily in the story. But when she does show up, wow – she completely blindsides Mickey with a betrayal that’s honestly shocking and just… brutal. It really left me reeling!
I’ve seen Mickey and Maggie battle it out in court before, and they’re both incredibly skilled – neither one gives an inch. But honestly, I was shocked by Maggie’s latest tactic. She really crossed a line when she brought up Harry Bosch’s personal medical details – information she picked up at a family dinner, no less – just to try and damage his credibility. It felt incredibly low, even for them.
She learned about the treatment through a private conversation – Mickey mentioned his family was helping Bosch with his cancer care. It wasn’t something publicly known or available in official documents; it was information shared out of personal trust.
Throughout all the books leading up to Resurrection Walk, I never disliked Maggie McPherson. I always felt Mickey and Maggie worked better as friends and co-parents than as a romantic couple, and Maggie herself was perfectly fine. But that changed completely with this particular moment. Using publicly known information against Bosch is one thing, but bringing his cancer treatment into it is completely different – and unacceptable.
Maggie strongly suggests Harry Bosch is unstable and unreliable. She brings up an old police report, claiming he fabricated a burglary to cast doubt on his mental state, and refuses to let him clarify the situation. It’s a truly unfair and shocking tactic.
How Maggie’s Betrayal Could Work Without Harry Bosch
Maggie’s betrayal of Mickey and Harry is a major turning point in Resurrection Walk. But it’s difficult to see how that scene could have been effective without Harry Bosch involved. The story needed another character working the case who could be temporarily incapacitated by medical treatment, affecting their judgment.
Trying to introduce Emi and reveal her cancer diagnosis in a single season of The Lincoln Lawyer would be overwhelming. A more manageable option might be to have Cisco, Mickey’s investigator, develop cancer – it would achieve a similar story effect. However, it wouldn’t have the same emotional impact when Maggie mentions the illness in court.
Lorna’s cancer diagnosis wouldn’t change much, as she’s a lawyer and not directly involved in the investigation. Izzy and her girlfriend, Grace, are other possibilities – they both assisted Mickey on a previous case. However, Maggie pursuing either of them probably wouldn’t be very effective, since she isn’t close to either woman.
This problem doesn’t have a sensible solution. She’s only really close to Lorna and Mickey within that group, and a betrayal involving either of them, or Emi, just doesn’t fit the story. Honestly, the best option might be to remove the scene altogether. The downside is, that scene is one of the most powerful parts of Resurrection Walk, so we’d lose that impact.
Maggie & Mickey Getting Back Together In S5 Would Feel Unearned Based On The Book
Maggie’s actions in Resurrection Walk reveal a fundamental rift between her, Mickey, and Bosch. It’s not just a disagreement, but a clash of principles. As a defense attorney, Mickey is willing to bend the rules, though he does have limits. Maggie, as a prosecutor, sees herself as morally superior and on the side of justice, looking down on Mickey’s methods.
The events in Resurrection Walk reveal that she isn’t as virtuous as she believes. Her self-righteous behavior feels undeserved, especially when compared to Mickey, who is honest about his willingness to break rules but still has principles. She stoops to using a family member’s private health details against them, and shockingly, tries to rationalize it through text messages.
I’ve never been invested in Mickey’s romantic relationships, but I’d be furious if he and Maggie rekindled things in season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer. While they ended season 4 on good terms, a relationship wouldn’t make sense considering the source material. Mickey prioritizes his family, and he couldn’t overlook Maggie’s betrayal of them.
