The popular series is concluding with a final movie, Heartstopper Forever. It’s finished with editing and other post-production work and is set to be released in 2026.
Netflix has also announced the final episode. The actress who played Sarah Nelson, Nick Nelson’s mother, in the first two seasons, won’t be returning. Anna Maxwell Martin (known for Fackham Hall) will take over the role.
Heartstopper Forever Wraps Up Charlie & Nick’s Story
The first three seasons of Heartstopper tell the story of two teenage boys whose friendship blossoms into romance. The show sensitively portrays the challenges they face as they come to terms with their feelings, explore their identities, and navigate issues like mental health, societal expectations, and building intimate relationships.
Following Season 3, Heartstopper will be adding Derek Jacobi (known for Gladiator) to the cast in a brief appearance. Alice Oseman, the creator and writer of the series, told Tudum they were thrilled so many of the original cast members are returning for the final film. Oseman also announced two new additions to the Heartstopper family: Anna Maxwell Martin as Sarah Nelson, and Derek Jacobi in his cameo role.
Because Olivia Colman, the Academy Award-winning actress, couldn’t participate in the film, the creators decided to find a new actor for the role instead of removing the character entirely. Author Alice Oseman emphasized how crucial it was for Nick’s mother, Sarah, to be included in the story.
The next installment of Heartstopper, based on the sixth book in the graphic novel series, will premiere on July 2nd. Author Alice Oseman announced that filming and editing were completed in late March.
Nick and Charlie are deeply connected, but as Nick prepares for university and Charlie gains more independence, their long-distance relationship starts to become difficult. They begin to doubt things, and their relationship is put to the test. At the same time, their friends are also dealing with the joys and struggles of love and friendship as they grow up and face new changes. The story asks: can young love truly last?
Who Is Coming Back to Heartstopper?
Olivia Colman won’t be returning, though she was temporarily replaced by Hayley Atwell in Season 3. However, Kit Connor and Joe Locke will both be back as Nick and Charlie, respectively.
The cast also includes returning favorites Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Will Gao as Tao Xu, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson, Rhea Norwood as Imogen Heaney, Jenny Walser as Tori Spring, Fisayo Akinade as Mr. Ajayi, Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk, Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid, Bradley Riches as James McEwan, Darragh Hand as Michael Holden, and Eddie Marsan as Geoff Young.
Heartstopper Forever premieres on Netflix in 2026.
