A new actor is potentially joining the cast of The Batman Part II. Sources at Deadline report that Charles Dance is in discussions to play the father of Harvey Dent, a character who will be portrayed by Sebastian Stan.
In Batman stories, the character Harvey Dent famously transforms into the villain Two-Face. Several actors have portrayed Harvey Dent in Batman films, notably Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight (2008) and Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever (1995). Interestingly, Harvey’s father has never been shown in a live-action Batman movie before, making his appearance in The Batman Part II a first.
In the comic books, Harvey Dent’s father is usually depicted as someone who struggles with alcohol, has mental health issues, and is often abusive. His name is typically Christopher Dent in the comics, not Charles Dent, suggesting that the filmmakers might be altering the character for their version of the story.
Charles Dance Will Be Perfect as Yet Another Bad Dad

Charles Dance has had a long acting career, starting on television in the 1970s and including a role as a small villain in the 1981 James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only. However, he’s recently become very well-known for playing Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones – the stern and ruthless head of the Lannister family whose harsh parenting deeply affects his children. He also played the demanding and controlling father of Victor Frankenstein in the 2025 film Frankenstein. He’s clearly become adept at portraying difficult fathers, making the role of Charles Dent a natural fit – especially considering the character’s name is strikingly similar to his own.
Deadline reports that this news isn’t official and the deal isn’t finalized, meaning the casting might not happen. With The Batman Part II not scheduled for release until October 1, 2027, director Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. have plenty of time to sort things out. Hopefully the deal will be confirmed, as Charles Dance always brings a strong presence to his roles.
Scarlett Johansson is the latest addition to the cast of The Batman Part II, joining previously announced stars Dance and Sebastian Stan. Deadline reports she’ll play Harvey Dent’s wife, a character often called Gilda Dent in the comics. With multiple Dent family members being cast, the sequel appears to be heavily focused on Harvey Dent’s transformation into a villain. Robert Pattinson, returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne, describes the film as a “different type” of Batman movie.
Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler, and Colin Farrell is set to return as Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin. However, Zoë Kravitz will not be continuing as Selina Kyle, or Catwoman.
